The new update for Valve's Team Fortress 2 will be released next Tuesday according to a new web page. The site gives a few details on what will change for the type.
Quote:
The first weapon revealed is "The Sandman," a "highly collectible bat that smacks baseballs at the other team, stunning the living crap outta anybody dumb, slow, drunk, mute or Australian enough to get in the way."
The bat allows players to fire a baseball at enemies. The further the ball flies, the longer it stuns an enemy.
The site mentions that the scout can't double-jump while carrying the new bat. He's gonna have to get down from the top of that train car in order to bean people with baseballs, putting him in harm's way.
I'm not really sure how this could break the game. I would imagine any hit within shotgun-use range wouldn't stun for very long. And landing a long-range hit would be pretty damn hard unless you were aiming out a sniper. Not to mention how long it will actually take to hit a ball, or the mechanics behind doing so.
I'm excited as shit for this. I just wish these updates came quicker. I want my Spy update, dammit.

Losing double jump on certain maps is a big deal for scouts. I wouldn't be surprised if a lot of people don't use the new bat all the time. I'm not too worried about it.
I hope they tested it carefully... in skilled hands the Scout is the deadliest class in the game. Giving them more weapons frightens me.

Could these be done any more slowly? The unbalancing part of the game is now that some classes are still standard, while others have many options. Options in the hand of a skill player given time to find what suits him best are the deadliest thing in an FPS - even if none of the options are themselves unbalancing.

This seems like a fair comment. Valve like to take their sweet time though.
I'd rather the game be upgraded incrementally than not at all. Valve's content upgrades are typically very well polished; the Steam/network upgrades can be rocky, but the content ups are smooth.
Also, I'm more excited about Valve's inclusion of community maps than I am about this Scout update, but I've never been big into Scouts (I've been averse to the class since '99!).

Scouts sucked back then, though. Now, they're scary little zippy bastards. They're hell in cleats.
