The reviews have started rolling in on the first of two exclusive episode releases for Grand Theft Auto IV, The Lost and Damned. Eurogamer has given it an 8/10 while Team Xbox is in with a 9.7/10:
While the company's talent with stories suggests the day may be approaching when GTA runs up against the inevitable limits of openworld titles - a Scorsese-quality narrative, where characters are happy to spend their time driving around in klutzish dodgem cars - for the moment, the trade-off still works. That's why, for now at least, you'll be more than happy to come along for the ride.
Overall, Grand Theft Auto IV: The Lost & Damned sets an amazing standard for what downloadable content can do. It doesn’t just extend the GTA IV experience, but actually builds upon it while feeling fresh and different. If you’re a GTA fan it’s a must-play, and will only get you excited about what Rockstar has up its sleeve for the next episode in the compelling saga of Liberty City
THE VERDICT: Do not hesitate to download The Lost and Damned via Xbox Live tomorrow - and expect it to last you a considerable portion of the time until we start to learn about the second, exclusive episode, expected later this year.

Coolies. I picked up the boxed copy of the code at Best Buy, it has a nice new poster of a young lady with a map on the other side; so if you're looking for a little shwag; pick up the box instead of just a points card. Oh, and 4000 pt cards are 5 dollars off too. Game on.

I would like to believe this is a good expansion but GTIV scores a full point higher than it should have from pretty much everyone. It's mind blowing that that game averaged like 9.8 metacritic score. I don't know one gamer that thinks that game was the best of "next gen"
Yep, I've always paid taxes on MS point cards at Best Buy. However I remember a few times when I didn't have to pay any when I purchased them at Gamestop. I have no idea why that is.

That's annoying... You're buying money, and paying sales tax on it. Its effectively like buying a gift card.
I would be psyched about this if it weren't for the whole biker gang aspect of it. My biggest gripe with GTA IV was how awful it was driving the bikes. I can't possibly overstate how much I hated them. I would cringe every time a bike mission came up. It's the only reason I have yet to complete the game; everything goes swimmingly during the final mission, right until the stupid bike chase. I finally got sick of re-playing the entire mission up to that point (hello, save checkpoints.)
So, I get all psyched about GTA DLC, then I find out it's 10-20 hours of being in a biker gang. Ugh. Unless they made the bikes handle dramatically better, count me out.

Word is that they did. It's apparently very hard to get knocked off your bike, and some of the videos up over at IGN seem to support this.

I sure hope so. There was literally no margin for error. One mistake or wrong turn, you got knocked off and you were done. And when that happens deep into a mission, in a game with no save checkpoints... man, did I hate those damn things.
@Mike Jones: my thoughts exactly. GTA4 was the first game i've ever sold back to GameStop. I just didn't like it, and i've played all GTA since the second one. GTA4 is good, but not good enough.

Hmmm....I actually loved the bikes and even took the trouble hit some hapless biker so I could steal his ride.
I'll wait for this DLC however. I played GTA IV on the PS3 and have since traded it in. Might buy a used copy for Xbox some time after the 2nd DLC is released.

You're right. I did hate those times.
