If last week's EA and THQ numbers show one thing (besides a crappy economy), it's that fewer games are being made for PlayStation 2. Naturally, both companies want to do more business on Wii.
Get the full story over at The Game Trade Journal.
Interesting that the install base for 360 is double that of PS3 but EA only made about 20 percent more with the 360. Higher attach rate? Fewer games for the PS3 so each EA game gets more attention? Whatever the reason, at least the PS3 seems to be deserving of developer attention even if fewer hardware has been sold.

What the hell does this post have to do with the future of the PS2?
I really wish people would stop just trying to light fires.

Thirded. This is not a console war thread.
I really don't want the PS2 to go away. "Total awesomeness experienced" level is ridiculously high and none of the next gen consoles are even close yet. Just the sheer volume of games meant that with as little as £10 you could get something that was at very least an interesting idea.
When I start it up from time to time when I buy a bargain for the sake of it that start screen brings back so many memories. Unfortunately it's a little temperamental these days, it did get a stupid amount of play. No multiple consoles in those days! A truly revolutionary period in gaming.
Every recessionary commando knows, the ps2 will be king this depression. Its cheap, and its library is voluminous.
Agreed. What a GREAT gift for anyone who doesn't have one. I gave my Gamecube with controllers and some games (kept a couple to play on the Wii) to a local charity and made a local family with 3 boys very happy. Good gaming doesn't require the latest and greatest!

I don't want the PS2 to go away either. It's the only working console I own right now.

Yes, I actually read the entire article and made a comment past the thread title. Taking more than four seconds to consider an article is unusual, but it still happens occasionally. Sorry to startle you.
Hyper-sensitive gamers see "lighting fires" everywhere. Relax. I wasn't attacking anyone. Does mentioning both consoles in the same post cause rashes or something? If EA is making good revenue from next gen systems regardles of install base (and they are), it might lead to a decline of PS2 resources. It's all related. Maybe that's why it was in the same article?

At best, leading in from "PS2 Fading Away" and immediately going to talk about the 360 and PS3 is non sequitar.
Staying completely PS2-related, I bought the Lego games for the PS2. They were cheaper, and it didn't seem like they needed "next gen" power. With such a huge install base, I think it will remain a reliable income stream for years still. So while it might become more and more marginalized as other install bases grow, I don't think it will go away for years. It hasn't even hit $99 yet, and I think that might be a good move in a recession.
Look at it this way, a guy who reviews games for a successful videogame site hasn't played Shadow of the Colossus OR Ico. I know right?
I'm weird...didn't like SotC but loved Ico.
