Gears 2 Third Patch to Include COD4 Style Ranking System
It appears as though Epic isn't quite done 'fixing' things with Gears of War 2. Joystiq has it that they want to show people based on their cumulative in-game experience instead of basing it on TrueSkill.

"You would gain experience through your individual performance" adding, that the "higher your score at the end, the more experience you acquire." A system that sounds similar to Call of Duty 4 or even Halo 3. Mr. Fergusson mentions that the max level cap would hover around 99 and achievements could be added to reward ranking progression.
It would be nice if it were like Halo. One for skill, and another for experience. Just because you maxed out your level in COD doesnt mean you have skill. It just means you played allot.

This change does not effect the match making in the game. It will still use the true skill system for match making. This just changes the shown ranking system from being based on team wins to individual experience level. The idea is that it should be a closer representation of the players actual skill level and the true skill system. When this goes into effect in TU3 all players will be reset to the starting rank.
This system should also discourage people from quitting during, or at the end of, games. I found it amusing that, the higher someone's rank, the more likely they would be to quit so they don't lose that rank.
Also, I wouldn't mind quitting so much if Gears 2 didn't have the archaic netcode that makes it unable to select a new host, thereby putting the fate of the entire match in to the hand of one anonymous human being.

You know what would be cool? If they could release a patch that made the matchmaking not take 10 minutes to find a game. I thought the last patch was supposed to fix that but nope still takes forever. Also the game is still laggy as hell and glitchy on certain games. Weird they haven't fixed that yet. I haven't seen another game on xbox live that takes as long to match make.

TU3 will include a behind the scenes country filter so it should get better.

Agreed, and also if they fixed standby problem. First time back in about a month and the second game i played a guy on my team was standbying in annex. He had about 40 kills we had like 4 each and nobody but him could shoot or kill the first half of the game.
For matchmaking they need to have a mix of the gears of war 1 matchmaking and halo 3 mathchmaking and implemnt the 50 rank system.
