It's always the paper publications that leak their scores first. Early scores and commentary have appeared on Metacritic for F.E.A.R. 2: Project Origin and it suggests we have a great game on our hands.

What it adds - the more capacious level design, the daylight, the mech bits, the cover system - doesn't amount to much more than a garnish of new ideas on an old chicken salad of a game. But as I said, the magic of F.E.A.R. is certainly in position. That basic pleasure of time slowing, of watching a death ballet unfold as glass shatters, masonry crumbles and bodies cartwheel with morbid elegance - it's all intact, and it's as incredible to behold as ever. Now, the spine tingling sequel, Project Origin is here to continue the story of the psychic and psychotic Alma with damn good results. [Mar 2009, p.78] - 80
You can keep an eye on the review scores as they tick in right here.
Gamepro doesn't count since they've always been a bunch of clowns which is appropriate because their magazine is a circus of mostly ads and the rest empty filler.
i didn't like the first one much but then again that was a lil before crysis came out. it just seemed bland and boring with shoddy controls in a standard fps setting. hell it wasn't even scary.

FEAR was like... two years before Crysis.
I found FEAR to be a really boring, but otherwise absolutely fucking nerve wracking game. At least we're seeing fairly average scores, despite this being a relatively high-profile release.

I enjoyed the first one but thought a lot of the 'fear' was simply cheap thrills thrown in as unexpectedly loud sound effects. Walk into a desk and it sounded like a fucking bomb just went off.

I know when FEAR came out that doesn't mean I played it right away.

This is pretty much why I enjoyed the first F.E.A.R. game. Also we had tons of fun with the multiplayer at a few LAN parties... it turned into a silly, slide and jump kicking kung-fu extravaganza.
The demo for the sequel seemed alright. I didn't like the power armor. I'll probably pick it up anyway.
I dunno about anyone else, but FEAR was scary as shit to me. It had plenty of those creepy "WHOA WTF WAS THAT!" types of scares and also plenty of startling surprise scares that made you jump out of your seat (The part at the beginning where a guy quickly jumps out from behind a vent pipe and hits you in the head with a weapon almost made me hit the ceiling).
And I'm a horror game junkie. Any game that freaks me out and/or makes me jump is gold to me. So far, Resident Evil 2 and Fear did this to most to me, the Silent Hill series being next in line. I also was very freaked out by Siren.
Played it. It's not scary. It's boring standard fps. Oh hey bad guys, lob grenade, take out two guys, edge out and pop the next guys head, burst the reinforcements, lob another grenade, clean up the rest, move on. The presentation of the story wasn't very grasping, the immediate 'isolation' would have worked if their were actual sequences, situations, anything besides stupid 'haziness' and flash backs and oh look a malnourished creepy long haired girl vision. The ai sucked at one point these half naked possessed demon guys were going back and forth against a wall not even attacking me. Really stole the oh shit shoot them while i just capped them with a shotgun.
This game is a definite 6.7 and that's only because it looks like i were in a some what capcom computer generated movie.
