I got a kick out of this since most of the places I know of that sell games do have them in glass cases. I'm surprised they're not tacking on a requirement that the shrinkwrap have a black bar around it to keep the box art from being visible. That would make "Destroy all Humans: Big Willy Unleashed" look a LOT more interesting sitting on a shelf.

In the near future, all shrinkwrap will be black in order to prevent anything printed on the packaging to be seen. The game's title will be printed in cold, unfeeling, sterile white ink.

It's funny until it happens.

Well, there goes the sales for the arcade port of Rape Rape Revolution: Incest Edition. Once again politicians strive to cripple a series of struggling artistic subgenres, much as when they banned the sales of Unwilling BDSM Hospital RPG Saga IV: The Cripple Ward.

Did you see what I did there?

IC, I didn't know that, its really too bad. It would imo fix most issues.

Free speech and Democrats; a bad mix.

California Democrats attempting to legislate against games...

Hillary Clinton wants legislation against games...

Joe Lieberman wants legislation against games...

This assemblyman wants legislation against games...

The list goes on and on for the Dems.

The Democratic Party is the anti-free-speech party in their anti-gaming legislative attempts.

Also, closely related: Fairness Doctrine, baby...it's coming back, if Pelosi and Reid get their way.

When first reading the story it seems like it would be hard to find a game that 'glamorizes' any of those acts, but since the actual language in the bill is more like this.

Quote:
51 S 391-Q. SALE OF CERTAIN VIDEO GAMES TO MINORS PROHIBITED; WARNING
52 LABELS REQUIRED. 1. NO PERSON, PARTNERSHIP OR CORPORATION SHALL SELL OR
53 RENT OR OFFER TO SELL OR RENT TO ANY PERSON UNDER THE AGE OF EIGHTEEN
54 YEARS ANY VIDEO GAME THAT CONTAINS DEPICTIONS DESCRIPTIVE OF, ADVOCATING
55 OR GLAMORIZING COMMISSION OF A VIOLENT CRIME, SUICIDE, SODOMY, RAPE,
56 INCEST, BESTIALITY, SADO-MASOCHISM, ANY FORM OF SEXUAL ACTIVITY IN A

A. 2837 3

1 VIOLENT CONTEXT, OR ADVOCATING OR ENCOURAGING MURDER, VIOLENT RACISM,
2 RELIGIOUS VIOLENCE, MORBID VIOLENCE OR THE ILLEGAL USE OF DRUGS OR ALCO-
3 HOL.
Added the Inflection

With it written like that it would be possible for an argument to be made that a decent sized amount of M rated games would be forced to have the Parental Advisory sticker slapped on it. In my opinion with the wording like that it makes a tough case for most M games not to get the Parental Advisory sticker on it.

Actually,
It's both extremes for differing reasons.

It always struck me as odd that both right and left, if pushed far enough, come to the same conclusions with different justifications.

Unless you don't count book burnings as anti free speech.

New York state politicians keep putting out these stupid pieces of legislation. A while back they passed a law banning pedestrians from using iPods. However, were I to use my Sansa or a Zune while crossing the street, it would be perfectly legal.

They also passed a bill banning .50 caliber rifles. The NRA had no problem with this, since the rifles are technically .499 caliber, and remain legal to use in New York.
