Allegedly there's a bunch of different sources reporting to IGN that the DSi is indeed coming to North America, probably sooner than a bunch of people expected, April 4th to be exact. Additionally, they claim that it'll be the low low price of $179.99, which is a $50 premium above the current DS titles.

Nintendo of America said last October that it did not feel it necessary to release DSi in 2008 because its predecessor continued to sell at a phenomenal rate. Last year, NOA president Reggie Fils-Aime was also quoted as promising that DSi would not debut in America until sometime after the first quarter.
When contacted for comment, a Nintendo representative told us that the company does not comment on rumors and speculation. Although IGN verified today's story through three independent sources, we have filed the information as rumor until Nintendo makes an official announcement.
I have a friend that picked one of these up on a recent trip to Japan. It's pretty neat but I wouldn't upgrade for it. One thing they did do though was make the unit a matte texture so that it feels different and is no longer shiny, and they made the corners more acute and less rounded. It's also definitely a little bit thinner.

I have a first gen that was getting a little long in the tooth. I was on the fence to get a ds lite, but then the news about the DSI came out. I guess I will wait and see what everyone says about it when it is released. I just wish more (Good) games came out to justify the upgrade.
That being said, I'd like to take a look at one before I make any kind of decision - my DSlite does well enough right now, but with the inclusion of an SD slot on the DSi, it would be nice to see if it is usable for homebrew applications. Having a text reader on the DS is tits, for sure.
I bought one of these when it launched in Japan ... just had that "I MUST BUY" feeling. Sadly, my life was not changed since I got it. It got worse. My house burned down and someone stole my car with my life savings in it. OK, that didn't happen, but once I had the system, I just was stuck trying to figure out why I bought it to begin with when I had a perfectly good DS Lite already.
Was kind of interested at one point, but then I realized I had a pile of GBA games next to my DS games and the interest quickly faded. I might get one if they add the GBA slot back in the next revision or if they release some truly compelling games that you can only download to the DSi.
