MLG Not Dead Yet

Multiplayer.ro is reporting that Major League Gaming has received a cash injection. One would think that with the economic downturn they may see a drop-off in high-level support and sponsorship. Perhaps it's no surprise then that it comes from one of their original partners.

Quote:
Major League Gaming, the professional video game league, announced it has received a $7.5 million follow-on investment from Oak Investment Partners. MLG’s explosive growth in online and live audience, as well as its continued success in attracting major sponsors, has made it the premier competitive video gaming property in the world.

“MLG has become a cultural phenomenon, and the management team has made competitive gaming really matter for pros, fans, and marketers,” said Ed Glassmeyer, managing partner, Oak Investment Partners. “We have great confidence that the company will continue this path to success and that the challenging economic environment will provide new opportunities for investment and growth.”
More right here.

I'd really like to see MLG take off.

Is MLG dying? You seems to suggest that they were on the brink. I really like MLG content. Esports need to take off in the US.

I'm going to personally strangle the next dork who dares to use the word "sport" to talk about video games.

It's been through it's share of tumultuous times in the past.

I'd like MLG to broadcast in the UK. However, given the failure of another games focused channel over here (in the last 6 months or so) I don't think it will happen.

Hopefully MLG will spend it wisely unlike the CGS that went into a multi-continent expansion way too early.

I'm all for e-sports becoming the next big thing.
(runs away from Mr. Green).

I would only like to see MLG take off if they stick to FPS or RTS, no more of this WoW arena shit.
