LBP Borked, Again

Man, this game can't seem to catch a break... unless it's actually breaking that is. LittleBigPlanet players have been reporting on the forums that things seem to be going missing from your saved game, as well as some user created going missing. Users are speculating that it could be a result of profiles becoming too bloated.

Quote:
The more frightening consequence of this bug is the deletion of user-created content. "I lost four costumes and she lost all 12 of her saved costumes, as well as losing the level status. Also we found that all of our community and saved photos were erased too," says justsayno2girls. Some are theorizing that the glitch is caused by bloated profile data. Since the release of the game, players have collected tons of objects from community members. The MGS pack also adds a large amount of data to one's profile. The game may be automatically deleting content when a profile gets too large.
Thanks PS3 Fanboy!

It should be noted that one of the reporting users is named SuperPhilip, so it may just be Evil trolling again. (I kid, I kid)

This sounds about as bad as the save games getting deleted in Castle Crashers. How games get away with shipping this way?

This is a bug that cropped up 2 months after the game shipped; chances are, this is an issue they didn't anticipate. It's being caused by the profile size limitations; when your profile fills up, it just stops saving things. It used to pop up an error message, which essentially said, "Your profile's full. Go delete stuff plx." Since the most recent patch, that doesn't pop up anymore...but your profile can still fill up.

It doesn't sound too difficult to fix, so hopefully they'll be able to churn out a fix relatively soon.

I still contend that this was the wrong time of year to release LBP. I have it sitting with the story finished but little else really explored. Drop this in summer and it would have sold better and people would have had more time to invest in the community aspects.

I am totally off topic today.

Very Much agreed.
If this were a March/Easter release, they would have had a bigger audience.

Disagree, partially. While they could have found a better release window Easter isn't usually a good time to launch brand new franchises from a studio that hasn't established itself or its reputation.

There are exceptions but too much relies on the initial burst of sales that a winter release can generate and I think Sony was banking this holiday on what they hoped to be a system seller. It was this holiday or next and I don't know that MM could have survived another full year.

At least it isn't killing hard drives. Oblivion killed my PCs hard drive, and Morrowind killed my Xbox's hard drive. No, I'm not kidding. BLARGH!

Don't be stupid. No application can "kill" a hard drive. Obviously you know NOTHING about software, troll.

I'm not so sure.
I recall the original Resident Evil releasing in the Easter season. I think that's what saved that IP.

Not saying it was bad, but, it had a better chance of getting lost in the q4 shuffle.

But the PS3 has an internal HDD, thought things like this could never ever happen.

WTF crawled up your asshole and died there? Hard drives are mechanical. ALL mechanical devices eventually fail. Using a mechanical device more often can, and usually does, wear it out sooner. With both of the applications I cited, I save frequently, and the computer accesses data from the drives as well.

In other words, I believe those two particular software applications are more demanding of my system's mechanical parts than other applications, and since the only two hard drive failures I have EVER had were both during using those two applications, I suspect a correlation.

Also, I suspect a correlation between yourself and being an asshole. I've got pretty decent evidence of that. Oh, and happy fucking new year to you, too. Here's a thought for next time; if you think I'm uninformed, inform me. That would be fun. You know, rather than being insulting.

Really? You haven't heard anything like that before? I mean, I agree with Johan in this case, if Par was being serious. But really? You haven't heard "Who pissed in your Cheerios?" Or "Who kicked sand in your vagina?" or anything like that before?

Aaaanyway. Anyone remember when consoles were touted as providing an almost completely bug-free, standardized experience? Which is pretty much the point of having a console instead of a PC. Odd that no one caught this LBP bug before it became apparent to the end-user.

I think bugs are a bigger deal these days on consoles because people expect fixes. Even in the last generation of consoles most people just accepted or avoided bugs.
