This is precisely why PC gaming still struggles, outside of WoW and flash games.

Sloppy PC port + DRM = fail.

I hope they don't sell enough units to cover the cost. Do it well or don't do it at all.

shocked

I'm shocked, shocked that they had problems with the game on a new platform!

As I'm replaying GTA4 on my PS3 I am greatly enjoying the fact that I haven't seen any of the old crash and hang bugs that were with it when it first came out. Obviously they rushed it out the door too early on CONSOLES, you know those single-platform-to-test-on systems that should be completely stable, so do you seriously think the PC version was going to work right out of the box?

Holy shit, would it have been that much effort to map the codes to the actual errors in a table internally and show the user the real message?

Is it really necessary to clutter up the front page with all these error codes? Coulda buried in the first post

That's a lot of error codes on the front page. Still, it is surprising to see all the issues people are having. Issues like these are the reason why I have shifted to being an almost exclusive console gamer. That and achievement points.

I could be mistaken but I think it is fine the way it is, it really demonstrates the issues users have been facing with this recent game release for PC.

My brother hasn't been able to get past the intro movie. Nor has he been able to sign onto the rockstar social club. What a fucking joke. You need live + social club + Securom to be able to play. Jesus, makes me glad I'm going to get the game off him and crack it. (own it on PS3 btw)

Wow..just beyond words. So Dan Houser lied in that interview a few months back. Nothing optimized at ALL for PC here. Its like the coders at Rockstar barely passed their advanced math courses in college, or maybe they need to go BACK to college (or grad school, or whatever) to learn optimization involves high levels of mathematical ability. Didn't they get any feedback from Q&A on this game? Don't they have testers? I seem to remember GTAIII being half-assed as well, same for Bully.

Dan Houser is a liar.

The DRM thing made me kinda glad that I didn't wait to buy it and played it on PS3 instead. Now I'm definitely glad I didn't.

It is one of the worst ports I've seen in years. I get the MMA10 once in a while and have to log out of the Social Club to get it running.

Other than that it runs fairly well for me (AMD X2 3.2GHz, GTX 260), but Rockstar chose to castrate the video options to the point I had to jump through hoops (scroll down a few) to unlock them. I was able to turn up some video related options up and get it looking better, without a frame rate hit, after doing that. Even then, the eye candy to performance ratio is piss poor compared to games like Fallout 3 and Crysis: Warhead.

One look at the Steam forums will give you a good idea how many people are having problems.

Rockstar's official explanation is good for a laugh too.

Meh, bought GT4 on PS3, returned it in a month. First game i have ever sold to gamestop. I was just... too... boring. And dissappointing. I mean 80% of the missions are run-gun that are eaaaaaaasy as pie and they last for a 'bout a minute or less.
