Eurogamer is reporting that Atari plans to revive some classic game franchises, including Baldur's Gate, Neverwinter Nights and Test Drive... but not until 2010.

Atari plans to revisit the likes of Baldur's Gate, Dungeons & Dragons, Neverwinter Nights and Test Drive Unlimited, but not in the next 12 months.
"You will hear more from these but not today, because we're focused on 2009," Infogrames president Phil Harrison told hacks assembled at a press event this afternoon.
That is a huge delay, but at least the games will not be some crappy rush job. Would anyone else love another Dark Alliance title?
Dark Alliance? Fuck that...I want Baldur's Gate III. Fuck the consolization of great franchises like Fallout and Baldur's Gate. Give us some good old hardcore RPGs.
Yeah...I'm pissed, because this feels a lot like Interplay and their licenses. Shit them down the tube. Although, I have to admit that Fallout 3 is the best Bethesda title to date, but that's not saying much.

While Baldur's Gate I and II on consoles shared very little in common with their PC relatives, I think it's pretty ignorant to discount them. They were both absolutely terrific hack-and-slash, loot-collecting, third-person action RPGs. They were (and are) great fun. I own both (as well as Baldur's Gate I, II and ToB on the PC) and love all of them for what they are.
I have severe doubts Atari would be able to match, let alone surpass, the grandness present in Baldurs Gate I OR II. Bioware has its hands full with Dragon Age, Mass Effect 2, Star Wars The Old Republic and Jade Empire 2 so I doubt they will do it. I wouldnt expect to see bg3 till 2011.

I certainly wouldn't consider my distaste for those bastardized versions ignorant. I'm just sick of the dumbed down, hack n slash gameplay. I want a good RPG.

I would, considering the console and PC versions are all excellent at what they are. You're conflating the games across the platforms, and allowing your preference for one to piss on the quality of the other. They were/are all very, very fine games for what they are on their respective platforms.
