It was bound to happen. The rollout of the NXE couldn't have been perfect even though up till now, not many people have complained. Microsoft has issued a statement regarding the NXE and how it can bugger up your audio. It has to do with HDMI and HDCP handshaking, and MS is working on the dilly, yo. Shacknews reporting:

While the vast majority of our users worldwide are enjoying the New Xbox Experience with no problems, we are aware that a handful of Xbox LIVE users are experiencing audio issues, and are diligently monitoring this issue and working towards a solution. We appreciate our members' enthusiasm and patience, and apologize for any inconveniences.
I haven't had any noticeable audio problems with my 360 since the NXE, and I am using HDMI. So that's good news.
However, I've found that my system hangs periodically in the dashboard (often on the friends list) and sometimes in the guide overlay, too. It's never a full freeze, just a 20 second hang and then it continues along again. Still, it's unfun =(

I've had some random issues playing Call of Duty: World at War where the audio will suddenly cut out and I have to restart the XBOX to get it back, but I thought it was CoD.
I have this problem where this ridiculous looking little doll-dude appears on my screen at times. I want to smack him in the head and throw him in the digital garbage, but I'm not allowed to do that by the NXE.
No matter what I do, my avatar still looks like a butch lesbian.

I think I've been having the mentioned audio issues. Once in a while my 360 will decide to output a sketchy 2.1 signal instead of Dolby 5.1. A reboot or two usually clears things up, and it only seems to happen at startup, so it's not a huge deal. I'm glad it's being dealt with though.
Hmmm, interesting. I think I may have experienced this. For awhile my audio was full of static crackliness, which went away after a system restart. Never dawned on me that it could have been caused by the NXE.
If they let me set 'My XBox' as the default channel, and brought back the video source defaulting, I wouldn't mind the NXE so much. (where it assumes the next time you want to watch a video it'll probably be from the same source as last time, unless you manually back out) The mii-vatars and most of the gunk is pretty stupid and some of the navigation is inconsistent, but I can get past that.
But burying the 'Getting Started' toggle and setting that advertising channel as the unavoidable default convinced me to turn off 'boot to dash'. In-game guide to the rescue.
