We've finally got a release date on GTA4's downloadable content. USA Today is reporting (by way of Joystiq) that the pack, Lost and Damned, will be available on February 17th, 2009. The main character will not be Niko, but instead feature a biker named Johnny Klebitz.
Quote:
The paper's website quotes Rockstar VP of creative development, Dan Houser, who calls Johnny "a very different character than Niko, with a very different background," adding on the topic of plot specifics, "I can't go into too much detail on the story, because we try not to give away too much plot before the game is released. But I can say that the story will show you a different side of Liberty City." Rockstar has not revealed pricing for the content, but we'll keep on top of that and any further details.
That's probably a good time to release this, but is it too late to care?
I still have my copy of GTA 4 for this very reason. Rockstar knows what they are doing with delaying the content, there is no time now for an expansion (other than WOW). The content is going to be more than anyone thinks.

I think it's good timing - lots of new consoles sold at Christmas, some more copies of GTAIV as well, and before the next round of big releases - I think the next game I'm likely to get isn't until March (RE5, assuming it makes its date).
If it's being positioned as DLC (which it is, everywhere it's mentioned) I don't think $40 is likely. They've got that weird pricing vision for Marketplace and I don't think they'd break that even for Halo, let alone GTA.
$30 maybe. But $20 doesn't sound so crazy for something that will never be a stand-alone retail box.
I dig what they're doing with this. When Xbox Live came about, I envisioned lots of games adding more content such as this. Namely, full on expansion packs that continue the single player story and add to the existing base.
Sadly, I can't really think of any game to date that has actually done this (Although there is that Halo pack on the way). If I can get another 10+ hours out of this for $20-30 bucks, that'd be pretty badass. Hopefully more game makers follow suit.
