Sony is taking a move towards unifying their community by rolling out a new Playstation.com update next week. Adding some very social networking-ish style features, you'll be able to keep an 'about me' section, display your profile and friends list. Additionally, you'll be able to review and rate games.
Quote:
In addition, we are making enhancements to the gamer profile features. Your profile will include your PSN online ID, your avatar, and a short “about me” section. You’ll also be able to display your friends list and, on the game detail pages, you’ll be able to include ratings and reviews for all of your favorite games. These features were created so that you can make new friends, learn new tricks and tips, talk trash, offer advice, console the defeated, praise the winners, and more.
Nice to see they are still working on things like this.
Hmm...interesting timing. Kind of overshadowed by another update in the news recently....
Wait a second! You can display your friends list?! OMG I have to have this! This is like the jump from bicycles to automobiles!

Seriously they have to fix the way you do voice coms on this system. My friend and I are in a chat in the xmb. We then have to tell each other what lobby to meet in, exit the chat, start up our NHL09 then join in the lobby to get voice coms.
Can't we just keep a chat open the whole time from the xmb?

You could do that on the 360 since day 1. You should look to upgrade to an xbox.

Everyone knows you can do that on a 360. He was saying that they need to add it to the PS3. But either way, it's awesome advice from you that he and his friend should both sell the systems that they currently own and buy a different one just to avoid the hassle of having to start a second chat session. Well said.
Why don't you just say "Hey everybody, look at me! Even though this story is about the PS3 I need to let you know that I think the 360 is better!" next time?
I'd rather Sony stop issuing news releases about things they'll eventually get around to doing and actual do them. All of this should have been available when the system launched.

I agree with you but i also think they wanted to have all this at launch, i get the feeling that they thought all the social networking stuff that xbox live had was going to be really easy to implement. They were wrong obviously. Certain patents the MS holds also slowed things down i'm sure.
It's funny, we both actually own 360's as well. That's why we were amazed we couldn't do this. It's so slick on the xbox. It's not a deal breaker for me, but it's high up on the list.
I'm just wondering why are they bothering with smaller things when obviously this needs to be addressed.
