It looks like after a few short months of operation Google will be shutting their social-networking MMOG Lively down for good. More from 1up.

Google claims the project was a risk, but "when you take these kinds of risks not every bet is going to pay off." When the service ends at the end of the year, "Everyone who has worked on the project will then move on to other teams" to help the company focus more on "core search, ads, and apps business."
I'd normally say "enjoy it while you can," but it looks like very few actually enjoyed their time in Lively. Instead, how about you "see why it failed while you still can" and report back in the comments section below.
I tried it. It was pretty bad. I don't know how anybody used it. Second life is much better, but sadly SL seems kind of dead to me? The areas that used to be packed are completely desolate.
Something that would have kicked ass and revolutionized social... dickery about five years ago.
Second Life, Myspace, Gaia with that flash stuff they have now, Habbo Hotel... these all detract from the userbase. It's just like the article above this one going on about LBP doing poorly because the market is flooded.
If they had this back when you were playing Well of Souls or before Gaia and Maplestory, you'd be seeing a lot more success. We're talking the 11-16 demographic here.
Still, I wonder if I should have looked into it; a little flash room on my blog where people could come and dick around would have been fun, under the right circumstances.
