But you can only chat in the Wii Speak channel with people on your friends list, right? And they'll probably only get this if they get a supported game with it, like Animal Crossing or The Conduit. So... wouldn't we all just rather use the chat in those games anyway?
I'm just curious as to why anyone would be up in arms about buying a pre-owned peripheral for a console.
How many of you buy used headsets? Used controllers, maybe? Perhaps a used memory card?
This is the type of product most people would just buy new, no questions asked. People are only up in arms because they technically(sorta-kinda) can't buy a pre-owned microphone this time. Why anyone would want to is almost beyond me; I know I, for one, hate the idea of buying something that would obviously have been handled relatively extensively by someone else. Used games are one thing...and even then, I don't particularly care for it. I prefer to own new things.
I'm just wondering how many of the people who are bitching actually own a Wii, let alone planning on buying the games supported by this or even using it in general.

Just saw someone in a fur coat walking a dog. "I love to take care of animals AND wear them!" If only they were holding a burger.

*raises hand* I've bought used peripherals before. I've broken a couple of 360 headsets, and could get the used ones for less than $10 used. I got two for less than $15 once at GS with the Edge card.
I'm not one to bitch about this though. It seems more like the channel would be useless without the headset anyways, so you only get it if you buy the headset.
You don't actually know what this device does, do you? You're just coming in here comment on shit you don't even understand. The "car" is still very usable. You just don't get the "GPS subscription" that normally comes with it.
It still works fine in any supporting game, you just don't get the separate channel for it. Again, diminished value, but still sellable and usable by the end party.
So you got people who say that the used game market is the evil, but when a company decides to take its own measures to curb their loses, they're now the evil?
Just a thought: Maybe they're not the same people!

I don’t think use of a used Wii Speak mic would limit its functionality with “Animal Crossing,” but I can’t confirm that.
IF the use in game isn't affected it's not THAT bad. But still, why not offer to sell the channel to those who buy it used, or, much more importantly, to support third part mics?

I usually buy used controllers. They're far cheaper than the normal ones and typically, especially for newer controllers, they'll play perfectly fine considering that they're made like a BRICK.
Nintendo could piss in a cup, call it Apple Juice Wii and people would buy it. This latest gambit of theirs just means mo' money for them, less for GameStop.
If you're actually interested in the Wii Speak channel, I don't see why you'd have a problem buying the hardware new. Used games/peripherals are a gamer's privilege, not a right.
