Here's a list for how to help define the problems we want to solve with the Heavy pack. It's pretty much exactly what we would start a design meeting with. Try coming up with a new unlockable for the Heavy that addresses the goal, while staying within the constraints as much as possible. The extra section includes other details that are useful when trying to compare two viable ideas.
Goal: Make the Heavy more viable when he has no Medic to pair with.
The LOVE and HATE brass knuckles idea that forum poster came up with is inspired. I mean brass knuckles or boxing gloves are really the only choices as far as what they can do model wise at least in my feeble mind, but that separate effects, and working in the Russian, truly genius.

I think the Heavy should be able to mount the mini gun somewhere, which in turn increases it's accuracy and slightly increases it's crit chance.
I like that idea, good work!
Also, for his melee, I like the idea of seperate attacks for the fists, but maybe change that up a little more and say a RMB press grabs the target by the shirt with one hand and the other slaps them back and forth a couple times and then he gets tossed away. Funny animation, can deal some really good (but not obliterating) damage, and then with the toss, it makes sure you can't repeat it immediately without closing again first.

I just read in the blog that the Heavy doesn't rely on accuracy, so Valve won't like my idea, but I still like it.

When the heavy unlocks come out, I shall be a god. I've got almost 80 hours as Heavy, and It's far and away my best class. I don't mean to talk myself up, but when I'm playing Heavy, no matter how good the other team is, my team usually is winning. Racking up 100 points in a round is not uncommon.
Anyway, my idea for the heavy's melee weapon would be replacing the heavy's fisticuffs with a karate chop. It fires slower the the fisticuffs, but it crits more and the taunt would have to be a wax-on-wax-off maneuver. But whatever it is, it's going to be great. Valve know what they're doing, and they love this game (and the heavy ) a whole heap.
Heavy should get boxing gloves. Right Mouse instead of Crit would do a stun and knockback, have a limit on how long before someone can get restunned.
I like the idea of a semi deployable minigun. You pick a spot, hold down the RMB, and Heavy deploys his gun. Maybe have it with a large front shield so that anything coming head on won't hurt, but leaving sides and back vulnerable.
Shotgun replacement gives you 1 shot... it would be a quintibarelled sawed off shotgun.
Massive damage at close range only but has a long reload time. Only reason to be used is that the heavy is on the move.
What, another patch? Man, Valve should've finished the game prior to release, right Deadend?

"Goal: Make the Heavy more viable when he has no Medic to pair with."
They've already broken the game enough with the Pyro buffs, no need to make the Heavy "more viable" (read: more crits) without a Medic.
I can't believe they actually said this on the blog:
"It shouldn't significantly change the Heavy's role, relative to other classes. In particular, it shouldn't significantly encroach on another class's role."
The new Pyro doesn't just encroach other classes, it wipes the floor with them -- the Soldier (Pyro has more HP and moves faster), Heavy (Pyro does more damage and moves much faster), Spy (Backburner aka "Backstab") Pyros move faster than SGs, an Engineer has little chance against a rushing, strafing Pyro. I used to play Pyro and die a lot. Now I can play Pyro and kill a whole team in one round
I hope they don't break the game even more with this new update. And I hope they release more than one class this time (no chance)

In response to this, I have to agree with how the following author put it
Although, I shamefully admit I only play TF 2 on the 360 - where we apparently don't get any updates.
Only if she's in close quarters, ambushing them. Which is sort of her job, you know?
Welcome to TF2, a close quarters game. And I guess you've never fallen from a decent height with "her"
I play enough of the game to know that the Pyro needs tweaking. I didn't notice the changes last night with the new patch, maybe it will become more obvious over time.

Irrelevant. Uber has been a part of the game since Valves internal testing. Valves new found love of crits is what's getting out of hand.
