Independent game developer S2 Games announced today that the highly anticipated PC title Savage 2: A Tortured Soul is now available. Refining and building upon the game design that made the critically acclaimed first title a huge success, Savage 2 incorporates elements of first-person shooter, real-time strategy, and role-playing game. Savage 2 is available exclusively online via download and carries a one-time price of $29.99.
Savage 2: A Tortured Soul is a fast paced multiplayer action title that takes team based game play to another level. Each match is a war for dominance where two teams of 5 to 17 players from two factions, beast or humans, attempt to destroy each other. It will take more than guns to finish the job. Players can choose from an array of units each with ranged, melee, and special abilities. To close the deal and seal the enemy’s fate, players can take control of the ultimate siege units like the Behemoth or the Battering Ram used to destroy enemy buildings or even resurrect a burning demonic Hellbourne. For the more strategic player, each team has one commander who overlooks the battlefield and manages construction, research, and issues commands for strategic assaults.
Savage 2 is free to download and new players can sign up for a demo account with 5 hours of online play. With the free client, gamers have access to several features including playing the offline single player tutorial, unlimited LAN play, and access to the comprehensive replay database that catalogues each and every game. Players who enjoy the game can simply upgrade through the game client or from the official website and will gain access to unlimited online play, full clan support through the Savage Clan League, ability to use persistent items and more.
It's really nice that they let the demo users to play the full game for 5 hours.
The first game was lots of fun. I remember spending a great deal of time on a couple servers that had in general a strong and skilled player set to fight with. Shame I dont think my machine at home will run this new one well.
I do recommend any FPS / RTS fans out there to download the demo and give this one a try.
Yeah I will have to check out the demo tonight as I was a big fan of the first one it just felt right. Hopefully this one will live up to my expectations and go above and beyond what the first did. Only issues I had with the first was quite a bit of lag and lack of players, other than that it was a solid game and was a blast to play.

The first game is free now, but it took almost two years for them to work out the kinks. It is a great game, but I've heard a lot is still wrong with the second one, and the fact that they're actually releasing it does not bode well for it's being in pristine shape to play. I have friends that played the beta and said it was really, really buggy still only a couple months ago. They only recently put the other race into the game..

It's completely different game today that it was couple months ago. They have released dozens of patches.
I tried it for a bit--the hit detection is WAY better, and I was able to set the graphics at fairly high for my mediocre rig. I'm not a fan of waiting 20-30 seconds for a respawn with a big ad in my face unless I buy the full game, though. Seems decent enough--relatively same feel to the first one.

Ugh. I hate to see such an imaginative title not receive publishing support. Maybe we'll see it up on Steam soon.
If I recall, they said they didn't want a publisher, because the publisher would force them to push out a buggy mess whenever they had wanted it out. I like this better anyway, $30 for a brand new game? I'm going to demo it and if it's any good, I'll definitely buy it for two reasons:
I desperately need something new to play and I love supporting people that still develop quality, unique games for the PC.

So everyone's playing a FPS except for the two commanders? Might have to check this out.
It's a blend of FPS and 3rd Person action game play when you're out in the field, while the commander sits at a point above the battle and places buildings and objectives. The gameplay is quite good.
