UK newspaper The Guardian is reporting that the advertisement watchdog group known as the Advertising Standards Agency has ruled that a television ad for Midway's Stranglehold violates their standards and should be pulled from rotation.
Quote:
A voiceover in the commercial for the game Stranglehold said: "Honour is his code. Vengeance is his mission. Violence is his only option."
After an investigation triggered by complaints from the public, the Advertising Standards Authority (ASA) found the advert breached advertising rules relating to violence and cruelty, and health and safety.
The watchdog said the advert for the 18-rated game featured almost continuous shooting and realistic computer-generated scenes of violence.
"We considered the ad was likely to be seen as encouraging and condoning violence," the ASA ruled. "Because the issues raised by the ad could not be addressed with a timing restriction, we considered the only solution was to withdraw the ad from transmission completely."
I wonder if they're allowing the trailer for Rambo to be shown?
Twats. I long for a world where people accept that violence is the rule, not the exception, in human nature. Then maybe we can start making some meaningful progress as a society.

WTF. Since when has one lunatic become the norm. Really, individuals who have a screw loose are going to define a society as a whole?! That's just insane. Incidents happen one way or another. That's just life with 7 billion people.
I've never been encouraged to violence because of an ad, but then again, that's probably thanks to the Watchdogs! Protecting our weak, sponge-like brains from absorbing evil through the mass media.
Honestly, this is from the country that considered banning hoodies because they were helping juveniles be delinquents. They banned samurai swords because somebody got killed. Like knives won't kill just as easy...
So who's surprised that they control the ads?
I'm not real nationalistic, but I will say this- as an adult who can choose where to live, I'm happy where I'm at. I'd rather that everybody has the option to be a violent schizo or a decent person then live in a society where the government spoon feeds me everything.
Bleh.
I do want to visit the UK sometime, mostly for the chocolate, which I hear is fantastic.
