According to an article on PC World's website, it seems the IT staff of a small college has found that the Xbox 360 might be jamming wireless LANs.
Quote:
Barber says the signal seems be created by the console's embedded 2.4GHz radio, which is used to communicate with the handheld wireless controller -- the gizmo with the buttons that manipulate a game running on the console. The Xbox also takes an optional Wi-Fi adapter, in the form of an USB dongle, to connect to a WLAN access point.
Interesting - I can't say I've had any problems like that arise, but I can see where it'd be a bother.

I read the article. It's a college IT department (read mostly students). There doesn't seem to be any support for these claims, and since it sounds ridiculous, there are no other professionals agreeing with them or seeing a similar problem for the last 2 years, and half the students in my college's dorms have 360s and have no problems with Wi-Fi, then I'm just going to go out on a limb here and call bullshit.
I haven't had any trouble with my 360, but turning on my PS3 instantly knocks my PC off my wireless network. I can usually reconnect with it still on, though.
I work for Computer Services at my school and 2.4Ghz phones seriously interfere with our wireless signal and lately our network has gotten to the point where it can be almost unbearably slow and we were talking about the probability of the phones being part of the problem. I'm definitely going to bring this article to my boss to get his opinion.
lol. 2.4ghz phones are not designed to play nice with wifi signals. The 360 is. I have mine using the wireless network and guess what, it can still transmit data fine!
I remember Wal-Mart had a problem with the 360 interfering with their handheld scanners. But I'm pretty sure there's no cross over between any of the 802.11 standards.
I've got 2 computers, a wi-fi notebook, and a 360 connected to a DSL modem in my house and my internet's slower than an asshole. I can't even play on XBox Live because of the lag. But that's probably unrelated.

I'd be looking at Students microwaving burritos all night. A Microwave is 10 times worse than and other device for 2.4 gig interference.
During the darkest days of my WoW addiction, my class lead was infamous for going offline whenever anyone in his family turned on the microwave. "brburrito" was the phrase we used for it.

how fast is an asshole?
jokes aside, if you have a 20 dollar a month dsl connection and 4 computers connected to it, im betting its a bandwith problem, not a problem with your wireless network.
Since I got a Wii I can't use the wireless adapter on the PC sitting next to it. The connection goes up and down a few times a minute. Unplug the Wii and it stops.
Lots of things cause interference, it is just a matter of well things handle it. The wireless adapter in my PC does not handle it well.
