Activision Announces National Guitar Hero III Tournament

Limber up your fret fingers! Activision and Red Octane send along a Press Release announcing a Guitar Hero III tournament.

Quote:
To support the launch of Guitar Hero III: Legends of Rock, Activision, Inc., Pontiac and Hot Topic are teaming up on a national promotion giving Guitar Hero fans, ages 16 and older, the chance to show off their fret burning skills and win a 2008 Pontiac G5. During the one month tour, consumers around the country can play the game that everyone is talking about at Hot Topic stores in the following cities:

Date City -- Mall
11/08 Orland Park, IL (Chicago) -- Orland Square
11/12 Paramus, NJ (New York/Newark) -- Garden State Plaza
11/15 Buford, GA (Atlanta) -- Mall of Georgia
11/19 Austin, TX -- Barton Creek
11/26 Phoenix, AZ -- Metro Center Mall
11/29 Las Vegas, NV -- Meadows Mall
12/03 Northridge, CA (Los Angeles) --Northridge Fashion Center
12/05 San Francisco, CA -- San Francisco Center

Qualifying will take place from 3:00 p.m. to 6:00 p.m. at each stop on the tour. The top eight scores from the Qualifying Round will proceed to the Semi-Final Rounds which will immediately follow.

Winners at each of the eight stops will receive a $100 gift card from Hot Topic. Additionally, winners will submit their high score on an undisclosed song to determine the two national finalists to advance to the Grand-Finals Round. The two Grand-Finals Round participants will win a trip for two to Los Angeles where they will compete in front of the game creators at Activision for the right to drive away in a 2008 Pontiac G5.

Individuals interested in participating can pre-register for the tournament by visiting the designated Hot Topic store starting at 10:30 a.m. five days prior to the tournament date. Pre-registration will close at 5:00 p.m. the evening before the tournament date. Pre-registering is highly recommended as space is limited.

For complete rules visit participating Hot Topic stores or www.guitarhero.com.
The Phoenix tournament is on Monday. The tournament is in the middle of the day on a weekday?

i don't think the store in the Northridge Fashion Center is gonna be large enough for this to work, but that's assuming ANYONE actually shows up with any reasonable skill

It'd be nice if instead of announcing stupid shit like this, Activision announces when the hell they plan on shipping Guitar Hero III for the Wii in Montreal. Not a single store has it. Tons of 360 and PS2 copies...not a single Wii one.

The Chicago one is this Thursday. Fuck, if this just came out then they're doing a shitty job of giving people time enough to take off work on a weekday.

Then again, it's at Hot Topic. They'll be getting mallrats, retards and the unemployed to show up - in other words, their regular clients. Oh, and the elderly as they're going on their morning constitutional walk. I do hope some old fart wins!

11/12 is a holiday. 11/11, the Veterans Day, falls on a Sunday this year, so the federal holiday is moved to 11/12, Monday.

oh, wow, that's actually not to far from here.

I don't think i can compare to some of the guys I've seen who can already beat Through the Fire and Flames, but it might be fun to try...

Well the closest one to me is in Atlanta, a five-hour drive.

I can't beat the game on Expert, but in my defense that devil is a cockgobbling cheater. I did, however, manage to get all five stars on Hard. Still, I'm not sure if my skill is enough to carry me to a competition level, much less one that is five hours away.

Paramus, New Jersey? Seriously? As if any self-respecting New Yorker would be caught dead in New Jersey. If I want to make myself look like a fool playing Guitar Hero in front of a group of people I'll just head to Barcade in Williamsberg for their annual Child's Play fundraiser.

Check out this video of 6 guys beating Dragonforce Through the Fire and the Flame, on Expert. Freaking impossible! I wonder if they allow multiple person teams?
