In a recent issue of Conde Nast Portfolio magazine, Activision CEO Bobby Kotick talked a little Guitar Hero IV. His biggest reveal was that the next Guitar Hero will feature a lot more than just guitars.
IGN has the scoop:

"It's not just about guitars," Kotick says. "We'll include a lot of other instruments, vocals. It will help us expand internationally. It's the first game we've had in which we can use local content and local bands."

The only instrument he mentions by name is vocals, leaving the question of what other peripherals they have in mind (keytar?). Drums would be the most obvious addition however MTV, owner of Rock Band creators Harmonix, holds the US patent for "drumming simulation games" (a.k.a. the
reason DrumMania never saw a US release).
This looks like the logical evolution of the Guitar Hero franchise. With Rock Band revolutionizing the rhythm game genre, staying with a guitar only setup would of been an archaic choice. While it may look like they're just playing copycat, I think it's good to see they're willing to expand what Guitar Hero can be. Plus Red Octane makes some amazing peripherals so I'd love to see what they come up with.
