WayForward Comes to Kickstarter for Shantae: 1/2 Genie Hero

WayForward has started up a Kickstarter initiative to make $400,000 for Shantae: 1/2 Genie Hero. The game is already confirmed for a number of different platforms including PC, 360, PS3, Wii U, Xbox One and PS4.

Over the last 23 years WayForward has developed more than 200 licensed titles, our most recent being Ducktales: Remastered. When circumstances permit, we also make weird and wonderful original games like Shantae and the Mighty Series.

In all that time, fan letters, support emails and interviewers have made our most frequently asked question, “Why don't you guys make more original games?”

Kickstarter allows us to do just that! With your help we can create a large-scale multi-console game that's well beyond our usual self-publishing budgets.

Oh sweet, I'm all over this! I tried one of the Shantae game on 3DS at PAX and OMG FUN. Consoles would seriously kick ass. Something about killing enemies by whipping your hair instantly appeals to me. Weird.

Damn, I just missed being an Early Adopter for a discount. Gone in one day is nuts. This will fund for sure.

I don't know if this is the 3DS version, but they're porting one of the handheld games to PC:

God damit! At this rate I'll have to start eating Ramen again if these good kickstarters keep going on. I don't think this one will get funded at this rate sadly.

41k in its first day, lots of Kickstarters have done worse but made it in the end.

Maybe but all those stretch goals look so good. I only put up $16 bucks for now (still have not picked up my paycheck for last month).

The previous Shantae games were really, really good, as are most of Wayforwards games.

I'll probably end up supporting this in the end, I'm also really happy that Ghost Song is going to be funded. So many good 2d games on kickstarter right now.

I love WayForward. They're making the best games around right now, in my opinion.

Side note: The Comic Artist first language is portuguese and english is his second. that's why theirs no "in" in the "heart on it" part.

That's a shame because the original Shahtae was fairly innovative for a platformer and very fun. Bought it for an old ex and it's still down in the vault somewhere...I think.

As for missing out on good kickstarters, don't sweat it. More come along and it's better to support them after they hit retail so you can help properly justify future projects so we don't end up with a bunch of indie one hit wonders. The exception of course being if a project doesn't look like it will make it. Then I'll support one near the end to give it that extra oomph it needs to cross the finish line.

And it's funded.
