E3 2009: Sony Press Conference
 

They saved the best for last. Sony's Press Conference starts in a few minutes and we will be updating this thread with news blurbs. Sony is going to make you their bitch!
  • Lots of numbers with the 35 exclusive PS3 titles in 2009 being the most impressive.
  • Uncharted 2 got a lot of fanfare with platforming shown over gunplay.
  • MAG was shown with a live 256 player demo. Impressive stuff!
  • PSP Go! details given including Sense Me that builds music playlists for you.
  • Gran Turismo PSP shown. It's a full-size package with 800 cars.
  • Metal Gear Solid:Peace Walker unveiled as an exclusive post-MGS3 PSP game. A 'true' MGS sequel.
  • Resident Evil Portable is an exclusive new game for the PSP designed specifically for it's strengths.
  • Agent is a new Rockstar PS3 exclusive, it's all about spies in the 1970's.
  • Assassin's Creed 2 gameplay shown with Da Vinci handing out the guns. That's right, guns!
  • FFXIII footage shown. Different from the Microsoft stuff.
  • FFXIV: Online is a new exclusive MMO for the PS3.
  • The Wand was unveiled. Motion controller that works with the EyeToy.
  • ModNation Racers is a new super customizable, user content driven kart racer.
  • The Last Guardian is the new game from Team ICO. Exclusive to PS3 they showed the leaked trailer.
  • Gran Turismo 5 was shown. No release date yet.
  • God of War III gameplay shown. Very impressive!

  • The anticipation is killing me. Or is that the 5 cups of coffee???

  • Sony is fashionably late. It is good to be the King. 2 minute warning bell sounds.

  • I love Queen. There are so many good games heading to the PS3 and PSP. Jack Tretton President and CEO takes the stage after the Queen game montage.

    Jack talks about the pressure of being in front of everyone and trying to do justice to the 364 games they have coming out this year. We will see why 2009 will be their best year ever. Playstation totaled 30% of all games sold in 2008. Mentions: Modern Warfare 2, Ratchet & Clank, Batman, Heavy Rain, Beatles Rock Band... more.

  • Starts with talking about the PS2. Mentions around 9 Million PS2's sold in 2008 and that this year will have around 100 new PS2 titles this year.

  • Gobal install base of PS3 is over 22 Million units. Playstation Network has over 24 Million accounts.

  • Props go out to inFamous!!! Over 35 Playstation exclusive titles in 2009.

  • Uncharted 2 up now. Introducing Evan Wells, Co-President of Naughty Dog. Uncharted 2 multiplayer beta starts tonight at midnight. Gameplay trailer shows them climbing the outside of a building. Crowd cheering. Doing the zip-line thing. More cheers. Who doesn't love Uncharted? Russian Helicopter starts shooting at them. Building falling apart under Nate. I am Nate's gun.

  • Andy Bodewin from Zipper Interactive introduced to show off MAG. They are going to show off a LIVE 256 player demo. Starting with an overhead map of the entire game area. Switches to first person POV. Some light combat going on in a tan/brown looking cityscape, the player is planting charges to score objectives. After securing a new spawn point, they call in an air strike. The game will be an ongoing battle at the E3 show floor.

  • Jack Tretton talking about the PSP. Deeper, richer, more engaging portable experience. Global install base of more than 50 million units. Rock Band, Final Fantasy, Assassin's Creed mentioned. Hanna Montana lilac colored PSP bundle announced. Gets some cheers.

  • Kaz Hirai President of Sony Computer Entertainment introduced. Here comes the... PSP Go! Kaz says they are not ditching the UMD or PSP 3000. PSP Go is more than 50% smaller than first PSP 1000. 16 GB built in memory. Download games & movies using Wi Fi. Slide out controls. You can add more memory. Media Go will replace the current media manager for your PC. Sense Me announced. It builds custom music play lists for you. All PSP titles going forward will be digital as well as those in stores. $249.99 US or Euro for PSP Go.

  • Introduces Kazunouri Yamauchi, father of Gran Turismo. Gran Turismo running on PSP Go at 60 fps. 800 cars. 35 tracks. 60 layouts of those tracks. 4 player multiplayer. Share the cars you unlock. Trailer for Gran Turismo for PSP Go. October 1st.

  • Metal Gear Solid mentioned. Hideo Kojima introduced. Still talking about the PSP Go. Snake is coming to PSP. Metal Gear Solid: Peace Walker. Game takes place in the 1970's, after MGS3. True sequel of the Metal Gear franchise. Trailer playing: shows 60's atomic bomb blast, missiles. Takes place in Costa Rica. Younger looking Snake than MGS4. Still looking all shaggy and 70's with a beard. Looks like a PS2 game. Multiplayer with 4 Snakes on screen? Ends with the Snake-in-a-box. Coming 2010. The next TRUE step in Metal Gear Solid.

  • Raccoon City time! Resident Evil: Portable game designed specifically for the PSP. Little Big Planet, SOCOM, Motorstorm, Hanna Montana and Harry Potter mentioned. Game montage trailer. Too many games to mention. They all look great. They all look better than the MGS game. Doh!

  • Jack Tretton returns to pimp up Home and the Playstation Network. Trying to tie in Home content with games like inFamous and big name publishers. Home trailer plays. I still don't get it.

  • PS3 time again. Video rolls showing off misc games. Uncharted 2, inFamous, Madden NFL 10, Final Fantasy XIII, MAG, Batman Arkham Asylum, Brutal Legend, White Knight Chronicles, Dirt 2, Ghostbusters, Ninja Gaiden Sigma II: It's Sigma Time, Mafia II, Buzz Quiz World, Tekken 6, Overlord II, Red Faction Guerrilla, Tiger Woods PGA Tour 10, Dark Void, G-Force, Planet 51, Karaoke Revolution, Heavy Rain, Battlefield 1943, Gravity Crash, Hustle Kings, Trash Panic, Critter Crunch, Katamari Forever, Fat Princess, EyePet, Singstar: Queen, DC Universe Online, Fuel... more.

  • Agent announced from Rockstar North as a Playstation 3 exclusive!!! Holy crap!

  • Assassin's Creed 2 gameplay shown. Da Vinci will provide your weapons and inventions. The game looks fantastic. On the store shelves for this holiday.

  • Jack is back to mention Square Enix and show us a video of Final Fantasy XIII. It looks very J-RPG and pretty 'Meh'. Jack announces Final Fantasy XIV: Online as a Playstation 3 exclusive. New online-only title.

  • Here we go with the motion control crap. Wake me when it is over. Introducing the 'wand'. A controller with a glowing ball on the top that the Playstation Eye can track. It works so good that the demo guy can't seem to get it to do anything right. This has dragged on for longer than it should. The controller is VERY accurate, but what would you do with it? They suggest using it for real-time strategy. With two controllers they are using it for a sword & shield combination and they are putting the emphasis on how accurate it is. A jab at the Wii controller? The archery demo is kind of neat. And, thankfully, it is over.

  • More content for LittleBigPlanet including new Disney costumes. The next big title in 'Play, Create, Share'. ModNation Racers announced. Design your own Monkey Butler driver Avatar. Customize both the driver and the car in this custom cart racer. Also including a Track Studio where you can create your own tracks. The Track Studio is easy to use and damn slick. Sheep! Awesome looking game.

  • Third title in The Last Guardian trilogy is showing. It appears to be the leaked Trico trailer. Yes, it is the previously leaked Trico trailer. Higher quality with better sound, but the same trailer. No wonder Jack kept talking about leaks. Blew their big ending surprise.

  • Short teaser trailer of Gran Turismo 5. Looks great. No release date.

  • God of War III time. Live gameplay demo. Same game, better graphics. Lots of new weapons. Same old skeletons to fight. Brutal combat. Looks totally awesome. Due for release March 2010.

  • Other companies ask you to imagine the future of gaming. Sony invites you to experience the future of gaming.

Same here. I want it to be like Nintendo's conference... showing off lots of games that people can play this year (or early next year) and no fantasy 'waggle AI' BS.

Exactly! I'm fine with 2010 content that I can wait for (like golden Sun) but I want to see upcomming stuff that isn't so far away we forget about it.

Wait... did we watch the same Nintendo conference? Yes, the DS looks like it's getting a few fun games - but what did they really show off that's coming this year? Four player old-school mario? A pulse-monitor?

I get that you're suspicious of what Microsoft showed, but Nintendo had barely anything to pull out beyond Galaxy 2, and Metroid Other M - both of which could really be a very long ways off.
