1UP (http://www.1up.com/do/previewPage?cId=3148068) brings word that EA Tiburon, the group responsible for the Madden franchise, will be working on the upcoming Superman Returns video game based on the upcoming Superman movie.

And Superman Returns was born. But don't worry -- the game won't play like Madden or a NASCAR racer. In fact, it looks more like the recent Spider-Man games than anything else, with quite a lot of ambition for a team that hasn't made an action game before. Plus, it's one of the new round of EA titles to lead development on Xbox 360, with the current gen and portable versions taking a back seat (are you listening, Activision?). As we first noted back in our first preview of the game from Microsoft's X05 event in October of last year, Superman Returns is an open-world free-roaming action game where players can fly around, use special powers, fight bosses and generally do all the cool things the character can do in the comics and movies.
As long as Madden isn't doing the playby play for the game...we might be alright.

I really like the fact that there's no "health meter" in the game. Superman really is completely invincible. You do well in the game by saving Metropolis citizens from danger and beating up the bad guys (sometimes *gigantic* bad guys, from the look of the screenshot released late last week).

The city is fucking huge as well. Incredible Hulk: Ultimate Desctruction and Spiderman 2 show the best way to do superhero games is with massive cities to play in so well done to EA for not sticking superman in teeny indoor levels like the last 2 current-gen games. Although Shadow of Apokolips wasn't bad though.

Just give me a Gotham City now and I'll be happy.

bap isn't this old news? And Dr. there is kryptonite. Shazaam can go toe to toe, along with several villians, such as darksied and doomsday. Health bar maybe pointless in his game for the most part when dealing with thugs. But in game there should be some danger sometime. Hello metallo in the game is fucking bonkos but he is powered by kyrptonite. In comic books damn near all of them are invincible for a lack them dying and staying dead. <shrug>

But as I once said before, all games should embrace, enhance, and bring their own flavor to the free roam action game style/genre. Like Batman. I want to be fucking Batman in gotham. Protecting the city and I'll just start stumbling on to something and start doing some detective work and all that goes with it. I can invision the game. And I think it would be good.

I mean, what happens to Supes in the comics when he's near the green stuff? He gets weak. I can see that translating in the game to sluggish controls and maybe even the screen getting fuzzy, so it gets more difficult to continue fighting. You have to try and get away for a bit to refocus yourself. But that's only if EA decides to be smart. However, with the way they handled the same "weak and tired" effect in Fight Night, I can see them being smart about how to handle kryptonite in Superman Returns.

And yeah, I completely agree about Batman. I want to stand at the corner of a tall building in Gotham and swing down into an alley to save some woman from being robbed! That's the fun of watching the movies/cartoons, and I want to see that embodied in a game properly. :D

I hope there's Kryptonite fog like in Superman 64. Those atmospheric effects were killer!

Shit, another sarcastic post. I'm going to go away for a while and find some hope in the world. :D

There are some new screenshots, but the fact that Tiburon is doing Superman is older than dirt! They started it like over a year ago.

Except thanks to Dues Ex he always escapes the kryptonite. I swear if done right you can take supes out. Put a kryptonite round in his head. ;-)

Is that giant robot even going to be in the Superman Returns movie.

Movie will probably be crap, other than the score.

Are there any new screens there? That damn 1up site always overheats my pc for whatever reason it is(which I'm fairly sure is because of those flash ads but it happens only on this site)
