Gamestop is already pre-ordering Diablo III, although it makes clear that there is no date, even no price, you can already send Gamestop some money if you like:
Official pricing and release dates have not been announced by Blizzard. Price and release date listed are estimates only and subject to change. Worry Free Guarantee - if the price decreases between the time you place your preorder and the release date, you’ll receive the lower of the two.

Everything to come out from Gamestop/EB Games makes me hate them more and more... This is like setting up the Christmas lights and decorations... In July

I remember pre-ordering Starcraft a month before its "Release Date". The game came out a year and a half later. Good times.

In other news, my FIRST news!

I just can't fathom the stupidity of anyone who would pre-order something before either a price or release date has been announced. I mean seriously--as if there's really going to be a SHORTAGE of copies of a hugely popular Blizzard game. That being said, I'm sure that no fewer than 100,000 people will pre-order before either price or release date are published.

I preordered a copy of Diablo III on Steam for $20 and they let me download and play it early.
Wierd though, the title screen says Torchlight.

Is $5 for "peace of mind" worth it? For some, it is. No one said you had to toss $60 down for it now :p

Most people use leftover in store credit to pre order things. They would rather you order something than throw it on your edge card.

Nice. I wonder if Pets will be announced for D3 in about 6 months. Along with the ability to micropay your way to better species.
Standard GameStop practice is to open preorders on any games within a couple days of its announcement. You could have pre ordered this at a GameStop store well over a year ago if you wanted to.

Honestly, this is probably done at customer request. They no doubt make some money from funds held in escrow for preorders but this will just be a drop in the bucket.

Seeing as there are other options to procure said game, digital download for instance, I'm at a loss for words. What, no preorder bonus!?!

I didn't know it at the time.
If a Mod is so kind as to update the story with this for me, I would be grateful.
Thanks.

Preorder = Interest Free Loan to game vendors. It's a racket, plain and simple, don't fall for pre-orders.
Why people will give good money to these companies for absolutely nothing in return but "hope" is amazing to me. Give your $5 to a charity instead, the money will do a LOT more good in the long run, and guess what? You WILL still get the game too!

If you're so worried about them getting your $5 now then do it online. They don't charge you anything until it ships.

Why would I NOT pre-order? I have ten bucks now, I save ten bucks whenever it comes out.

I am having SUCH a blast with that game. It's an obvious clone, but that's a good thing!! It was well worth the twenty bucks. Great deal. :)

Oh, they made another Diablo(w) game? If it can't be made into a Hollywood blockbuster, I don't want it!

I never pre-order anymore. The last time I tried to pre-order a game, I had accidentally left my ID in my old wallet when I switched over to my new one and forgot where I left it. The pre-order came in and they refused to give me the game without ID. I just drove for 10 minutes to the other EB games and picked the same game up off the shelf. They even threw in the pre-order bonus without a pre-order. It's completely unnecessary. There hasn't been a single game I've wanted to buy that I haven't been able to find off the shelf on release day.
