Yahoo Video Games (http://videogames.yahoo.com/) has posted an interview (http://videogames.yahoo.com/ongoingfeature?eid=437368&page=0) with director Peter Jackson regarding his involvement in video game adaptations of his movies. Here's the most interesting piece of the interview...

Ubisoft President Yves Guillemot told me last year in Paris that the publisher has the rights to do additional Kong games. When asked about a potential video game sequel and the direction the story might go, Jackson replied, "I have been in discussions with Michel Ancel and the Montpellier team, but there is nothing to share at this point in time."
Thanks to Gamecloud (http://www.gamecloud.com/) for the tip. (http://www.gamecloud.com/article.php?article_id=3582)

If I remember correctly there were rumors of theatrical and video game sequels just before and right after the release of the movie.

Kong didn't die in the alternate ending of the game. If you completed that lavel, you sailed Kong back to Skulle Island.

They could just continue from that ending, I think that would be the best.

I would love to see another King Kong game, I thougt the first one was so addictive and funny.

I agree. Which may have been the only reason for including that ending there in the first place.

There were other big ape skeletons in Kong's lair in the movie, which could be taken to mean that a) There were others or b) He was the last of them and he went there because he was so desperately lonely, like folks do with graves.

Maybe we could see Evil Dead IV: Ash versus Zombie Kong.

That and it was a reward for playing back through the game to score the 1 million points it takes to unlock that bad boy.

The only rumors I remember about a sequel to the film was an April Fools Day video blog on KongIsKing.net, where Jackson straightfaced a joke about a Kong trilogy involving Kong's son and giant machine guns strapped to his back. Something tells me that won't be filmed any time soon.

As for game sequels? Yeah, go for it. They've milked LotR for more than it was worth, and those games were mediocre at best. If they can keep the Kong game sequel(s?) up to snuff, I'm all for it. I just hope they're a bit longer and a bit more varied.

Why not? That sounds fucking awesome!

Uh...the king was dethroned if you ask me.

Also, beauty didn't kill the beast. Jack Black is fugly.

Could be cool, I'd buy it... especially if they opened up the environments a bit more, so I didn't feel like I was practically playing on rails. And the brambles... oh, the brambles. Although I must say, the experience was remarkedly pure and fun. But why couldn't you stab and/or shoot your allies? Come on! More interactivity, that's what I'd want in a sequel.

Jack Black is not fugly. Just horridly, horridly miscast.

I hate sequels to remakes...

Why can't hollywood begin paying writers for original stories again?

There was a sequel to the original King Kong, called Son of Kong.

There was a sequel to the 70's remake, called King Kong Lives.

Since there probably won't be a sequel to this one in theatres (IMO, the best one), then a video game one wouldn't be bad. Especially since the game was kickass.

Ancel needs to work on a beyond good or evil 2 first though.

The king Kong game was a piece of shit. Lame combat and lame AI. Half the art was bad and the other half was just ok. I only played on the 360. We don't need a sequel to a lame game and a boring movie.

Shhh! I just pitched my script for Ocean's 1.1E+10 to some studio execs. In short it's just like Ocean's Eleven but in space. Plenty of opportunity for gratuitous special effects that don't add anything to the movie but will feature prominently in the trailers to cover up the rehashed plot. The studio is psyched.

THe movie was "okay". Great from a cinematographer's point-of-view, but 2D characters, gratuitous action-scenes and an inability to edit one's own work, does not a great movie make.

As for the game, it was pretty, but play was mediocre.

A sequel to the movie? Probably not.

A sequel to the game? You bet your arse Ubisoft will milk it till no one buys it and even then, they may still give you a DS/PSP version. :D

It's hard to believe that a game involving Michel Ancel could be bad.

I think Ubi and Ancel should do a Rampage or King of the Monsters game instead.
