It is now 6:44pm Eastern Time and here I am staring at my Steam client and, in case you were stuck at work itching to get home and kill some farking zombies, the words "Pre-load complete; unreleased" remain fixed next to Left 4 Dead 2 Demo, striking at the souls of everyone with a taunting stoneface. We're now looking at quite a bit of time lost on the exclusivity of this pre-order bonus, and Valve, while updating some Steam client things, is keeping quiet on what the deal is.
All we're doing now is waiting... but at least everyone will get to play the demo soon without having to have pre-ordered it, eh?

I'm sitting here thinking about pre-ordering it. xD
This isn't overly encouraging.

For anyone not following it.. here is what went down
Demo Release dates (hopefully I remember this accurately)
Tuesday 2pm... delayed
Wednesday 2am... delayed
Wednesday 4pm... delayed
Wednesday 5pm... delayed
Wednesday 6pm.. currently it's an hour and a half overdue.
No response from valve... nothing. We're left in the dark

Oh, and people on the 360 can supposedly play it no problem.. whether or not they preordered.

You guys are so eager to be Valve's guinea pigs and bug test this demo for them so that those of us not so crazy to shell out $50 on a re-skinned old game can actually have a decent experience next week. Thanks for that.
If you don't believe me, then you obviously didn't pre-order the original L4D. Valve's got this system all figured out.

The first game I only had on xbox, and I got it a while after it was released.
Also, I wouldn't pre-order it, usually, but like... a baseball bat? Baseball bat!

People are really over reacting about this. It's a freakin demo.
I've been playing Borderlands and I'll probably still be playing it when the demo comes out.
It's really not that big a deal.

(A little bad with the drawing, but it's the joke that matters.)
When does the demo release to the masses?
edit: Supposedly November 3rd, but who knows?

Alrighty, it's finally out!
I was annoyed when Borderlands was unlocked ten minutes late. I can't imagine the hell you guys had to endure. Too bad I'm not getting L4D2 until the 50% weekend...

Is yours actually working? When I try to launch mine it gives me an error saying that "the game is currently unavailable"

log out and back in (literally log out.. settings -> login as diff user)
L4D2.. the guns feel weaker, sound stronger, and have kinda bad animations..
There's some voice work missing (demo?).. The first two levels are in broad daylight, which makes it feel like a completely different game than left 4 dead, so it's hard to get into it. those two levels are also short as hell. Melee is fun but it takes the slot of your pistol.. so if you have a shotgun then it makes it very difficult to take out smokers who are ontop of buildings.
Maybe i'm just too stuck to L4D1, but the environment and music just didn't make me feel excited. We'll see when the full game releases

Agreed. That felt like a mod to me. A decent one, but just meh. Those levels are short as hell.

Well hey, when I win the L4D give away we can play the first one together =P
The un-pre-order demo is still out before the pre-order time finishes, so I can get a play of that and still have time for the pre-order to get the baseball bat. =P

Ok it was a bit more fun the second time through on Advanced, and without my roommate smacking everyone with pans/guitars. Still kind of feels just like a mod though, and any melee weapon that isn't the machete is kind of lame.

No no no, but, the baseball bat? What's that like?! =O

Didn't find baseball bat in the game... doubt it's in the demo
Pans, machete, guitar, night stick... can't remember any others
lot of different guns, though. I think all the rifles perform practically the same, from what I can tell

The demo was short, but it was a bit of a challenge on advanced.
I like a lot of what I saw with regards to multiplayer. The spitter will definitely stop survivors from bunching up in corners. The new pistols fire faster, which I like. I'm assuming the diff between the Ak47 & m16 is more damage vs. more accurate ? The bile bomb was fun against a tank.
The witch moves around.... surprise!
The common zombies look better; it's nice to see them break away from grey with touches of grey.
Melee seem way overpowered; I hope it gets toned down in multiplayer.

That's because Valve now shuns PC gamers and gives preferential treatment to 360 owners. Or didn't you get the memo?

To those of you saying, "Feels like a mod", didn't you feel that way about the first one?
There's not enough in the demo to really hold my interest until the game is released. The L4D2 demo is just like the first demo, in that it's two chapters of a single campaign, and campaign mode only. I enjoyed it, but I won't be playing it non-stop like I did the last demo up until release.
Playing the demo pre-release shouldn't be seen as the main benefit of pre-ordering anyways. Getting 10% off is the deal, and the rest is just garnish.
But I do like that they've embraced the New Orleans flavour of the new locale. Most of the in-game music is altered to fit, and though it's a bit less haunting now, it's certainly more energetic. One of the in-game jukeboxes actually plays "Re: Your Brians", along with more appropriate music like "When the Saints go marching in".
Jockeys seem a bit weak, but Chargers and Spitters seem to be doing their job nicely, namely that of keeping the Survivors from clumping up in chokepoints. Groups seem to be spread out a little bit more, trying to find a balance between vulnerability to Smokers/Hunters/Jockeys versus Spitters/Chargers. Over-reacting to spitter acid sometimes results in someone straying too far, and getting pounced/snagged.

One of the in-game jukeboxes actually plays "Re: Your Brians"Woulda been double-funny if it was playing "Re: Vos Cerveaux".
