Valve and IGA Worldwide Settle In-Game Ads Dispute

Valve sent over a press release announcing that they have settled a dispute with IGA Worldwide over IGA arranging for in-game advertising to be put into Counter-Strike games on selected servers. A few weeks ago it was revealed that IGA used the Engage In-Game Advertising service to put in Subway ads inside Counter-Strike games and Valve quickly stated the ads were put in without their permission and were considering legal action. Now the two sides have "reached a swift and professional resolution of any issues that may have existed between them" and the press release hints that Valve and IGA are considering working together on future projects.
Perhaps I'm simply old and paranoid, but the line 'Valve and IGA are considering working together on future projects' worries me.

I suppose I'd want to see the actual press release before deciding if it really did hint that they'd possibly work together, but I can't say I'd be at all shocked.

Well okay, I'd be a little shocked that Valve didn't just go off on their own to implement an in-game advertising system.

I do not see the big deal about putting a subway billboard in de_dust. It's not terribly out of place, and shit, if server admins can do it to offset hosting costs, and subway remains delicious, it's win win.

If they want to throw sponsored ads into multiplayer CS games, I'm cool with that: particularly during official compeitions. Just like sporting events have ads.
