GamesRadar has posted a hands-on preview (http://www.gamesradar.com/pc/mass-effect-2/preview/mass-effect-2-hands-on/a-2009102311445688083/g-20090220153298083) of BioWare's highly anticipated role-playing game, Mass Effect 2.

There’s an immediately recognizable difference in gun combat as the game is loosed from its RPG moorings. Your rounds carry more impact, scraps feel less floaty and more physical (often literally, as you can punch things), and there’s a satisfying sense of connection during exchanges. The cover system’s been fixed, so accidentally sticking to walls and crates is less frequent.

The brainy tactical hemisphere of Mass Effect’s combat hasn’t been neglected – you’ll still command your squad’s roster of special abilities through the power wheel, and this time around you’ll have a greater degree of control over the placement and movements of your team. Oh, and having realised the Mako handles like a remote-controlled boat, we’ll be getting a new ATV to truck about planetside with.

I think that may be one of the worst reviews I've ever read though.

Honestly, the most important thing to me about Mass Effect 2 will be the plot/story. It's the first game I can remember where I'm actually so interested in the story that I almost...almost...don't care whether the rest of the game (gameplay, graphics, etc.) is any good. I want it to be good, but I want a terrific second part of the story first.

Also, I didn't have a real problem with the mako or the combat the first time around, or the elevators.

You should definitely not read that if you don't want to know anything about the story.

- True, I can't believe the reviewer actually starts talking about the end of the story without any *spoiler* warnings or anything! The whole thing was vague and amateurish. Save yourselves the time.

Yes, I forgot to type a 'p' therefore everything I said was invalid :P

Yeah, while I'm certainly thankful for the link indicating that there's a preview of ME2, the preview itself says a bit much of the story--without any indication--and covers little of the gameplay/game mechanics. Overall, it doesn't offer much more than what one could find in ME2's wikipedia article. I'm still super excited for this game, though! :)

I actually liked the way the Mako handled. . . The only complaints I had were about item management and the cover system. I'm hoping they didn't change the combat and exploration TOO much to make it more mainstream.

What they wanted to do with the Mako was make it less like a vehicle, and more like the way combat handles on foot. That is, they want you to be able to move in all directions at a time, so think a swivelling tank tread instead of wheels, and to be able to use cover more effectively. All around increase in maneuverability. And having more vehicular combat would be fun too.
