View Full Version : Nintendo Revolution Logo Revealed...and then Removed?

Go Nintendo grabbed a screenshot (http://gonintendo.com/?p=831) from the corporate website page of announced Revolution developer, Blitz Games (http://www.blitzgames.com) that appears to reveal the logo for the upcoming Nintendo Revolution console. However, visiting the page now shows simple text reading Nintendo Revolution where the logo previously stood. Have we caught an oops moment of a company releasing privileged information a little too early?

weird. Not sure what to make of it. It's like two completely opposite ends of the spectrum in one logo.

I really dislike the PS3 spiderman font thing.

Read the links, people...The official name of Nintendo’s next generation console has not yet been announced and the Big N itself has publicly stated that Revolution is only a codename.

But the question is did they trademark that codename? Viva La Revolution!

Matt responds: No, sir. The official name of Nintendo’s next generation console has not yet been announced and the Big N itself has publicly stated that Revolution is only a codename. Developers need to refer to the machine as something and for now Revolution is as good as any other.”

Matt says no deal, but I am not sure I am ready to believe that IGN has all the answers, or even that IGN is telling the truth. They HAVE pulled the wool over our eyes a few times (ahem…Revolution console/controller images).

I think the bottom logo on the leaked logo sheets looks a lot like the Rare logo, no?

The DS was also supposed to be the "working name." (though Nitro was the code name)

Hrm.

Hrm.QFT.

Besides, the name Revolution has been so ingrained in the Nintendo fanboy psyche as of late, it would almost be a mistake to change it.

They are not gonna name the freakin' console "revolution". That's called marketing.

I dunno. I'd almost feel kind of uncomfortable if they changed it from Revolution. As for the logo, though, it looks stupid as hell.

The logo that appeared on Blitz' website was just one of the many mockups that appeared on the web during the "Revolution craze", created by fans. It's not leaked, it's not super secret, it's not something that slipped out by accident. Just a fan mockup logo. The sheet at the bottom of that news article, while almost certainly also made by a fan, only served to create more confusion regarding this old fan-made logo.

That logo would make sense, as it's the same font style they use internally for the DS WIFI logo, and that barely changed from the original mock-up to final cut in the few months it was floating around.

That's the part that doesn't make sense to me. And when people caught on to it, they removed it? Even if the logo does end up not being real, that part is what makes this story unusual.

What in the heck does "QFT" mean??? I see this on here all the time, and I have no idea what it stands for. Clarification would be much appreciated.

Looking at their website, it looks lilke they like to have images of console logos on their various game pages to let people know what console the game was developed for. It's possible that whoever is in charge of updating their website decided that, for lack of an official logo from Nintendo, they would just use a fan-created logo that's pretty easy to grab off of the 'net just to use as a placeholder. There would never be any intent for the logo to be on the live version of the page, which is why it was so quickly removed when the page went live.

I'm not saying this is the only possibility, but it seems just as likely as the other option.

Plus, this logo is awful looking and doesn't seem like it's the product of the same design team that put out the GameCube and DS logos.

Miyamoto: CONSOLE IS CALLED......FUN BLOCK!Ha! Now that you've said it that has to be the consoles name. Metroid Prime 3 for FUN BLOCK! I like it already.

Rogue is right, but on certain other (gamer and non-gaming) websites, it can also mean Quit F**cking Talking, so it kinda depends on the context of the topic.

That logo was a fake created by a user on the IGN message boards and then circulated around. It is not real, though I do believe that Nintendo will keep Revolution as the name. The company should have erred on the side of caution and used the Revolution logo from the last E3 (the one Nintendo used) rather than a rumored logo. For the record, I don't think the PS3 logo on their website is finalized either, at least for Sony's benefit I hope it's not.

That's what I had always assumed that it meant, but then sometimes people would use it in a way that didn't make sense under that defintion.

Thanks for the clarifications guys.

If it was a real logo it would be kind of poorly made, since that R looks more like a stylized P. I also doubt it will be called Revolution, just because a lot of people have gotten used to calling it that won't make Nintendo keep the name, after all how many of us got to play an Ultra 64.

Besides, why would they have a logo that looks like the "R" is trying to leave the "Revolution"?

That is a butt-ugly logo. It's even worse than the PS3 Spiderman logo.

New from Nintendo

The Reverand Lovejoy

In all seriousness though I love the name as it is, I know its a Dev Name similar to the Ultra 64 and the Dolphin etc etc
but hell people are expectining revolutionary things from Ninty on this one (things we will get in spades im sure but we
have to wait out the pre release flaming wars to see them and rate them accordingly debating now is just silly)

rubs chine and thinks back to the same stupid arguments Pre Xbox and CUBE and PS2

Xbox 360 is a silly name IMO most consoles and game devices have god awful names. Does anyone have a list of the other potential
Xbox 360 names ? No you dont do you why is that :) Surely there was a lot of name spitballing going on before X360 was confirmed...

In Australia we got the NES (Pronounced in Aussie as "NESS") I believe you guys (Americatown) refer to that as the N.E.S
Then we got the SNES (Pronounced in Aussie as "SNESS") I always thought that SNES was the coolest sounding yet specifically
created word / acronym for a game console I found it strange that the rest of the world didn't abbreviate it similarly.
The Revolution / The Rev sits just fine with me.

No matter what the console in my household as with my friends they are reffered to as there family name.

Nintendo
Sony
Xbox

All the new name conventions do is attach "BUZZ" to a newly formed segment thats created when the name trademark is registered.
A new name makes most think there is more secret new in there when perhaps its all just part of the hype machine...
Thats why along with the "newness" of the name you are also reminded of where that product came from.
Helps spur consumers into an upgrade mentality.

Theres no difference between the marketing depts of every company on the planet the same basic rules of how your consumer
thinks and behaves will always be there. That is until someone comes along and populates an underused segment or method
to such an extent that your competitors take notice then try and move in, in that situation just think IPOD or SKYPE everyone
keeps refering to the original BUZZ word not yours which means as other competitors enter your newly formed market all they do
initially is up your press by pumping more money / interest into your burgoening segment.

Call the damn thing whatever you want just get it to me allready :) Still got a month the the bloody X360 is released in Australia *waves fist*

It's rude to tease logos its an identity your creating the same reasons you hate it are some of the very reasons it was chosen.

/note it could all be a fake for sure but brand image is taken very very seriously.
