After getting watered down by Valve and getting an MA 15 rating, it seems that the Office of Film and Literature Classification (OFLC) in Australia has decided to refuse classification again on the original version of Valve's new zombie survival game, Left 4 Dead 2. So, it's banned, again... but you can still play the non-cool one. VG247 (http://www.vg247.com/2009/10/22/left-4-dead-2-banned-in-australia-part-two/):

In the Review Board’s opinion, Left 4 Dead 2 could not be accommodated within the MA 15+ classification. The computer game contains a level of violence which is high in impact, prolonged, repeated frequently and realistic within the context of the game.

In addition, it was the Review Board’s opinion that there was insufficient delineation between the depiction of general zombie figures and the human figures, as opposed to the clearly fictional ‘infected’ characters. This was a major consideration of the Review Board in determining the impact of this game on minors.

This country is ridiculous when it comes to censorship.

I'm gonna just import the UK version and be done with it.

This is the decision on Valve's appeal to review the decision refusing classification of the original gory version.

The edited ungory version has received a classification and will be available in Australia. The original post should be edited for accuracy to reflect this.

Yeah, the original story wasn't exactly clear on this matter... thanks for pointing it out. I've updated the original post.

Just out of curiosity, if there is NO 18+ classification in Australia, either for Films, Literature and Games, is there any porn in Australia? Or is it 15+?

there's an 18+ classification, but they won't allow it on computer games.

there have been multiple attempts to change it but one guy keeps vetoing it.
