LucasArts has released the first patch for Petroglyph's just released RTS Star Wars Empire at War. This update brings your retail game to v1.1 and makes various tweaks, as well as fixing multiplayer, balance, and graphical issues.

Control the fate of the galaxy in LucasArts' RTS game Star Wars: Empire at War. Set a few years before the events of Episode IV: A New Hope, the game will let players rewrite history as well as experience the aftermath of Star Wars: Episode III Revenge of the Sith, the creation of the Rebel Alliance, and Darth Vader's rise to power. You can grab the Star Wars: Empire at War v1.1 patch (http://www.worthplaying.com/article.php?sid=31976) (20mb) over at WorthPlaying.

I tried to pick up a copy yesterday afternoon (2/15/06) and was told they could not sell it to me due to the street date being the 16th. This is why I hate chain stores.

Same thing happened to my brother, we asked for the copy and the guy went in back and brought it out. Then he looked at the receipt and told us we couldn't have it yet. Now that's customer service!

Ya, places that don't want to get fucked by publishers for the next 5 releases they carry sure are assholes for wanting to stay in business. Fuck them for thier flawed ethics and business acumen.

Did I mention I'm being facetious, and you're being a crybaby? Or was it obvious? If you can't accept 'street date' as a part of being a gamer, there's a problem here. Why don't you write Lucasarts and Microsoft and Atari and Nintendo and Sony and Blizzard and Sierra and then make an online petition too and keep on fighting the good fight from the bleachers.

I remember that from my retail days, the computer simply wouldn't let us even make the sale.

Both of you, grow up. Don't you think the employees want to play the games too? But then, is EaW worth losing your job over not being able to wait 1 day?

This is the same problem I have with people bitching about the 360 shortage as if it's retailers' fault and not the supplier.

I remember that from my retail days, the computer simply wouldn't let us even make the sale.

There is a way to get around it.

Make a sale for a game with the same price. At midnight or when you open ther register the next day, do an exchange for the item you actually gave the customer the night before.

I used this technique many times when I worked retail. I considered it a valuable service for people that would not be able to stay the full night to get new releases that we had already recieved. I suspect that this not only boosted our overall sales of the product but generated a healthy amount of loyalty with the customers.

Of course the strategy guide hawking presale pushing trade me your games chanting ghouls hunched behind the counters are enthralled by their managerial masters and cannot go against their will.

I actually don't believe this but I like the bit of imagery I was able to conjure up. I understand that the register jockey is doing his job, that's fine. I don't blame him one bit. He's just a cog in the machine.

I would not have a problem with this "street dating" technique (which is used to make their sales look more brisk) if retailers would give out anything other than a ship date ahead of time. I wouldn't have bothered coming in to the store if I had known I couldn't get it until tomarrow.

I was in the local gamestop trading in some stuff and picking up some other things yesterday. The guy there broke the street date for me, since I could pay it off with credit. He simply listed the game as being fully paid off with credit and that he'd ring it up the next day. When we were talking about the street date, he said that there was a $3000 fine for breaking it, so it's understandable that most store clerks wouldn't want to break street date.

Does anyone know yet if this patch improves the pathfinding AI? Want to know before purchase. In the demo the faulty pathfinding is the most troubling peculiarity I’ve encountered. Can anyone speak of this?

After which they'll go to the next store, tell them they bought the game at our store and we'll get sued for unfair competition (or whatever it's called).

It happened a few times before and it sucks to get sued for something like that.

Thanks Morratut but I actually meant gamplay experience over a README file.

I've read readme files that sound beter than the ORIGINAL RELEASE. Only to play the game "patched" to find very little actual improvment in some ammended specific departments.

That is why I read Evil Avatar...The truth. For real gamers.

LOL oh right.

Err not sure then. I'll only know when I play the game instead of the demo.

I know what you mean though regarding a game patched = not a lot of actual difference :)

either way, those patch notes don't list any improvements from ground AI pathfinding, only for transport ships in space.

Yeah, well he shouldn't have almost handed us the copy and then pulled it back, and we did have it paid off in full already. I know about the restrictions of retail stores and release dates, that's why I let it go. This was just another reason why Gamestop sucks, besides them always only getting 2 copies of any new game and telling us we should have preordered it so we can guarantee we get it. I've rarely had a good experience at a Gamestop.

The issue was with the street date and blaming the retailer, not how the guy handled it originally. I was telling people we have, say 15.. and 9 of them are preordered, so if they want one they need to put 5$ on it and come pick it up the next day. And Mightbe, i'm not sure what your earlier post was saying. Please clarify so I can agree or fight with you.
