This weekend on Steam all three of Volition's Red Faction games are on sale (http://store.steampowered.com/news/2955/) at 25% off. You can get the latest title, Red Faction: Guerrilla (http://store.steampowered.com/app/20500/), for $29.99 and the previous two, Red Faction (http://store.steampowered.com/app/20530/) and Red Faction II (http://store.steampowered.com/app/20550/), for $7.49 each. There's also a Red Faction Complete Pack (http://store.steampowered.com/sub/2284/) for $44.97.

Set 50 years after the climactic events of the original Red Faction, Red Faction: Guerrilla allows players to take the role of an insurgent fighter with the newly re-established Red Faction movement as they battle for liberation from the oppressive Earth Defense Force. Red Faction: Guerrilla re-defines the limits of destruction-based game-play with a huge open-world, fast-paced guerrilla-style combat, and true physics-based destruction.

Was there ever a PC demo of Red Faction: Guerrilla? It looks like a cool game, but I don't want to lay down $30 for it without at least trying it first.

I don't recommend it.

I actually started the campaign on 360 last night and am having fun. Multiplayer is fun too. It's not the same as the old Red Faction games but I recommend the franchise.

Red Faction 1 and 2 not compatible with Vista... I'll pass.

Finished RF1 on Steam launch day, and RF2 two days after. Relatively short games (6-8 hours each or so?), but the first one is worth it. The second one is absolute crap.

As for RF3 I'll pass. I'd had gotten it if it was an FPS though.

Red Faction: Guerrilla is a hell of a lot better than the first two games in the series. I'm having a lot of fun with it on 360. RF:G makes excellent use of the GeoMod technology and it doesn't seem like a tacked on technology in this game. Missions could have been more varied, and the story stronger, but this game is just plain fun. I'd recommend it.

I recently started playing Red Faction Guerrilla and I've gotta say, it may not have the best story, but I freakin' love blowing shit up in there.

Guerrilla still plays way too fast on Windows 7. Avoid at all costs until they patch this issue. The game speed is double. It's pretty much unplayable during combat.

I'm playing on Windows 7 x64, and I'm not quite sure what you're talking about.

32 bit version? Search the steam forum for the game. Tons of people are effected, and the dev promised a patch would fix it, but that was days after launch. No word since.

I played it and enjoyed it at first, but I soon started to hate it when everything is just horrible repetitive action. Blowing stuff up gets old really fast, the story is so generic and horrible I cannot believe someone was paid to write it, the game has you running from one end of the map to the other end for no reason except to make the game last longer, the land is barren, I know its mars but come on, do I need to drive miles of baren landscape for no reason? The characters are 2 dimensional, cared for none of them. The touted geomod isnt that impressive, the structures are little more than cardboard boxes that isn't impressive visually at all. Did I mention the repetitive missions? Its like they got the most boring missions they can find and just repeat them a dozen times each, the only purpose it served was to drag the length of the game out, nothing else. I highly advise not buying this unless you are fine with blowing money, do your self a favor and spend it on another game.

You might have just sold me the game. That sounds AMAZING.

I have yet to play this game, but I love games that are based on some sort of sneaky, "against" theme. Those who played, is the game play based on guerrilla tactics or is it a simple blow-em-up style type of game?

It's not really about sneaking at all. In fact, it's usually about the most over the top approach that is possible within the limitations of the game.

That's not to say it isn't fun, it's just not what the title of the game suggests it to be. You spend most of your time blowing up buildings with C4 or other weapons, which actually turns out to be very fun.

That does sound like fun; but not wholly so challenging?

It's fun, you're always on the run because the moment you start blowing things up, the EDF is on your ass. So it's kind of like GTA, but they are even more persistent and a little easier to kill. It forces you to be on the run all the time though, which I found to be fun.

And it's not exactly easy. They can swarm you pretty quickly if you wait around at one spot too long. And they just keep coming. You can blow them up, but once you're out of ammo, you have to retreat or die.

That does sound like fun; but not wholly so challenging? The game gets challenging after you clear the first couple of areas. Some of the firefights can get pretty hectic with enemy combatants coming at you from all angles. I would not call Red Faction: Guerrilla a triple-A game but I'm having fun with it.

Edit: I should add, like others have said, the game suffers somewhat from repetition.

I bought all but Guerrilla...

I must say, playing Red Faction 1 was very fun, brought back a lot of memories. (Yes I have to old physical discs too!)
Good for me too, I could never find the retail version of Red Faction 2 for PC, though I got it for Xbox and PS2.

Honestly after playing the first two again, makes me wonder why they went with third-person...
Feels too much like a Martian Saint's Row + being able to blow shit up...
IMO
