Yup, I'm getting pretty excited for this now. I hope it's a lot of fun, cause the only type of game to ever truly "consume" me is a loot gather type. Give me tons of side quests (procedurally generated now, hell yeah) and I'm good for a long time.

I'd much rather play this on my PC than my 360, but my PC can't handle it. Probably.
:[
You folks better keep us informed on how this turns out. I am resisting being excited by it as L4D2 and WoW will take up enough of my limited free time.
However! I still look forward to a distant future which involves playing lots of Borderlands.

My PC isn't the greatest and I've decided to get Borderlands via Steam. Just do it!

Nice, can't wait for the first time I find an orange-epic weapon. I sincerely hope it's in a category I can use :P Or that they setup some sort of online auction house. Get it done, Gearbox ;) Or I'll just save it to trade with someone.

Considering that Borderlands is basically L4D and WoW combined, I think you're going to find it irresistible ;)

Well, can your system run Unreal 3? If you turn down the graphics can it? Borderlands uses the Unreal 3 engine so I'm guessing if you can run that then you can run this.
(Why they have yet to release system requirements is beyond me, it's only the Unreal 3 tech. I doubt it'll be THAT resource intensive.)

Lol, the barter economy in ancient times was exactly this system. Way it works is you both drop items at a considerable distance. This should work, long as you can mouseover a dropped weapon from a distance to have its stats pop up. If both are happy, you both begin moving towards the opposite weapons--switching sides, to claim your trade. This makes it nearly impossible to cheat.
However, there is a character in the game who can move super fast >_> so, probably most people would not trade with that class.
All of this is still pure speculation. I don't know why so many are so concerned about this issue when it would be an exceedingly easy and logical one to patch into the game. And, as has been pointed out before, it worked with Diablo.

My system's several years old now, but with a newish card (8800GT), only 2 gigs memory, and can handle those req's just fine. But then again, I could run Crysis without stutter back when it was new and Crysis being a slideshow for most people was the big joke >_>

My system is no better: Dual Core AMD 4600 +'s, 2 GB of DDR2 RAM and a Nvidia 9600 GT(or maybe S?) 512 MB card and I'm buying it for the PC!

Yeah, I'm ready....

That is my hope and fear. I hate the standard MMO interface, as I am much more of an FPS person. But WoW has the best multiplayer coop (in the form of raids and instances) of any game I've played. L4D comes close, and has much more enjoyable gameplay.
Someday soon there will be a perfect storm of these game types. Borderlands sounds like another step in that direction.

But is that recommended or basic requirements? I'd go out and buy a new video card right now if I didn't have to upgrade my shotty 350W PSU.

Bro, you can get a mid-range Sapphire Radeon 4870 series for around $155/free shipping (http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16814102849) and a CoolerMaster 600w PS for $80 shipped (http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16817171036) as well.
*That's only $255 and your smokin!

I agree completely. My most ardent hope is that Borderlands is wildly successful to encourage Gearbox to make a sequel as an MMO. That would rock.

When I got the 8800GT I had to buy a new power supply. $50 or so? If I recall. Maybe it was $20, I forget. Anyway, installed it myself without much problem--even though I accidentally unseated the heatsink off the CPU >_> Had to go buy some Arctic-Chill and it was all good again.

- Yeah, I was all worried I was gonna spend like $500 when my GPU fizzed. Instead I got out the door for much less, like barely $250.

Oh hell, I could've linked to a MUCH LESS inexpensive solution, but those links get him a FAST videocard and an 80+ efficient powersupply that'll last a decade. I think it's worth spending just a little extra for the better parts since you'll probably hand it down someday, you know? A computer I built in 2002 is still running strong at my parents house, and is their primary PC. Little do they know they have a P4 3.2GHZ~3.5 with a Radeon 3850 under the hood and 2GB of HyperX DDR400:) now I don't mind visiting my parents house so much, hehehe

Hrm, I need to update my motherboard because its capped at 2 GB. How much do you think an upgrade, with 2 more GB of ram, would cost me?
I could give you the actual specs of my computer when I got home.

Ram is roughly $10-15 a gigabyte until you get into the insanely expensive stuff.
I have 8 gigs of DDR2 PC6400 low latency ram and it cost me an incredible $90 or so with shipping. (4x2 gig sticks)
Edit: the motherboard, however, will bring up issues. If your motherboard is capped at 2 gigs, it's obviously an older motherboard, maybe even DDR1 . You'd probably do better to just upgrade the processor while you're at it and move up to DDR2 ram.

I'd be literally overjoyed to help, just post em.
*Side thought, if you continue to run XP, it won't register more than 3GB of "usable" RAM, so keep that in mind.

I just can't deal with any slow down in an FPS. :/

Not to start a war or anything, but I think it's strange you can't suffer ANY slowdown in an FPS but you have no trouble using a controller.

A quality PS is huge. I have an Antec 1000w and it's a powerhouse that has been running for years.
See, my limitation is my CPU. I'm running a 2.0Ghz AMD Athlon (3200 I believe, can't remember off the top of my head.)
I have 4gb of RAM (I'm running xp) and an NVidia 9800GT 1gb, which you would THINK would be a decent rig, but alas my CPU creates quite the bottleneck. I can play most mid-range games decently, but even DOW 2 gave my rig a kick squa' in the nuts because of the high CPU requirements.

I grew up on a keyboard and mouse for FPS, so no worries.
But that's like comparing a guy with a broken leg to a retard.
They're both "slow", but there's a difference. :)
