Full Auto hits the XBox 360, making the first game launched in over a month. Mark Ecko's controversial graffiti game also hits this week.

Drakan = Game that you ride a dragon

That's the end of my useless info for the week.
Atari... you do ambitious titles, I am curious about the Ecko game. However, you fail to ship even mediocre execution on promising ideas. Not to mention that they are literally all bug-filled nightmares. You need a new QA division. Fulfill the promise of the concepts! Just once!

I knew that they were making Drakengard and SoE sequels, but didn't think they'd be out now. I've heard absolutely nothing about either. SoE really bored me after the first thirty minutes of mindless violence. I actually didn't mind Drakengard though. It's not perfect, but if you like a little dragonflight and firebreathing mixed in with your Dynasty Warriors style action, it's pretty decent. I should get around to finishing it one of these days.
Looks like a lot of games I'd rent but only Empire At War and Grandia 3 look worth buying.
I really want to see Mirrormask. And I enjoyed Saw, so I'll probably give Saw 2 a rent and laugh at it.

What a craptastic week this is. This is the first 360 release in months...and it's some game I've never really bothered to pay attention to. Grand.

Apparently the Drakengard sequel is much improved. I was pretty disappointed by the first one, but I may give them a second chance.

I also just ordered the CCG. I'm extremely intriuged by the UFS thingy. It sounds really neat. I want to know when I get to buy other decks or booster packs or whatever. Also, if someone could point me in the right direction as to where I can purchase the Dawn of War: 40K CCG, I'd be much obliged.

Can't wait for Grandia III. IGN gave it a so-so review, but lack of sidequests doesn't bother me like it seems to bother the reviewer. Also, I don't call 25-30 hours "short". The graphics look beautiful and the combat system actually looks like a lot of fun. Interested to hear what Gamespot has to say, but it's pretty much a must play for me.

Fans of EE2 multiplayer REALLY need to pick up Art of Supremecy.
Had it here for the past month (legitimately... see sig :P) and it really kicks the multiplayer up a notch. Not so good if you are a single player fan however as it is just more of the same in that regard.

I found myself enjoying the Empires at War demo, but I stop liking RTS games the moment I "figure them out". Unfortunately, there seems to only be about 3 to 5 hours of fun gameplay in any given RTS for me. . . then I'm bored. However, I can totally see RTS fans lining up for this. (I'm the guy who didn't even like Warcraft 3, so I'm not a good judge of RTS games by any means).
Full Auto, Drakenguard 2, and Grandia III should all be making their way to me in the mail (Gamefly). I'm hoping that Full Auto is good enough that I turn it into a full purchase. Grandia III is probably a fun battle system with a mediocre story (if it stays true to the series) and Drakenguard 2 is probably just a fun button masher that is good for a few hours of mindlessness, but I'd totally like them to prove that they are worth keeping to me.
Next week, Fight Night Round 3 - w00t!

My thoughts exactly. I like my 360. I just bought it 2 weeks ago. But the launch reminds me too much of the PSP launch. Lots of promise but nothing of real note worth delivering. There are some nice titles but nothing that couldn't be done on current generation technology. I don't see anything especially fantastical (graphics wise) about Kameo or Perfect Dark or Condemned.
For those that are waiting on availability of 360s, in hindsight, I would wait for availability of titles first and then worry about finding a 360.

Grandia 3 and Empire at War are on my list for this week. If I had more money (Just paid off one of my college loans) I'd pick up Drakengard 2 as well. I'm a sucker for Dynasty Warriors style games. Ah well, there's always next paycheck.

I'm glad I didn't jump on a 360 right away, because I would have been one bored hombre. Spring should be the first signs of the next-gen, though. It's seeming pretty DS-y.
Grandia III for moi this week. Not that I'll have huge amounts of time to play it, especially if it turns out to be mediocre, and I've resigned myself to not expecting anything near the quality of the first title. But it better be a greater game than the sequel. Not that it would be too hard.

Empire at War and the C&C: First Decade thing, thats about it for me.
A quick caution about C&C First Decade: the versions of C&C and Red Alert are the DOS versions run under an emulator, so they can only be run at 640x480. If you have a newer LCD like I do you can't play it without your monitor wigging out. I'm pretty disappointed that this is the case, doubly so since Red Alert did have a Win95 version that could be run at 800x600. Looks like my old CRT is going to get dusted off this week.
I forgot how much character the earlier games in the series had though, it's great to see that C&C has stood the test of time for being a great game.

I really need to scrape up some money and go buy Rome Gold, as I played the hell out of a friends copy of the original, and you can't beat that price for it and the expansion.
On a more interesting note, anyone go out and buy Command and Conquer - First Decade? If you look here (http://www.gamestop.com/product.asp?product%5Fid=646445), you'll see they've packed it all up nicely on a DVD for 40 bucks, all the releases over the past decade, with nice XP compatibility and such. I'll definetly need to pick this sucker up as C&C is just good times, and I lost interest in it after Red Alert 2, so it'll be cool to go back and also see all the new iterations.

Yes. See the post on the previous page. The game feels incredibly ghetto but the flavor is intact, but there are some fairly glaring problems with the C&C/RA games. In a way it's depressing to see how badly the series tanked out after Westwood was bought out by EA.

I still need to pick up Diary (barnes and noble hardcover 3.99!) but I'd have to say Lullaby was my personal favorite, by far. I have Invisible Monsters but I haven't read it. Choke was okay, but nowhere near as good as Lullaby.

I wasn't too impressed with Diary. I liked it better than Haunted but that doesn't say a whole lot. I liked the characters in Diary, they grew on me. He developed his characters well in Diary in my opinion (as he did with previous books). I didn't feel for the characters at all in Haunted, they seemed too disposable. I think that has something to do with the amount of characters though. In Haunted he had to develop 10+ characters, which he hasn't done before (and published at least). It is hard to keep a minimalist style when you are trying to develop that many characters.
But what the hell do I know, I can't fill a chapter (lord knows I've tried).

I like to not include Fight Club for ranking purposes, as I saw the movie first and it sits in an odd place. But for me it's Survivor, Choke, Lullaby, Invisible Monsters, then after a noticable gap in quality is Haunted, and then way down at the bottom of the list is Diary.
And yeah, Haunted was sloppier than his other books, but I just couldn't get into Diary. Maybe I need to give it another shot. But I put Choke over Lullaby because Choke's ending worked great for me, where as with Lullaby I really wanted more resolution. Hell, any resolution. But otherwise, yeah, Lullaby kicked much ass.

To each their own. I thought RA was the pinnacle of the series and I enjoyed the hell out of Renegade (which was overshadowed by a game with 1942 in its title). IMO RA2 didn't match up to Warcraft 3, and neither did Generals for that matter.
But yeah, Tiberian Sun sucked nuts, I think everyone will agree to that.

I'm divided on Empire at War. On the one hand, the demo definitely added something to the RTS genre that I hadn't seen before (the space battle victory or defeat affects ground battles to come). On the other hand, I don't know if I want another RTS to go through. The same goes for last week's Battle for Middle Earth II. There are so many great games in my library that I haven't touched in so long that I don't want to buy anything new. I'm almost to the point (in the console world) of trading in my entire library (aside from a couple exceptions) but I want cash, not store credit. Gamestop nor EB (my only two choices) will give me cash.

He may normally use few characters, but I certainly wouldn't call Pahlaniuk minimalist.
You might not call him a minimalist, but he brands himself as one (along with basically every literary critic). If you really pay attention to the constuction of his novels, you'll understand that he is indeed a minimalist. He writes with very few adverbs, instead letting context dictate meaning. If you read Chuck and compare the writing to say Hemingway (one of the better American minimalists) you will see the similarities. He actually puts on some great workshops on minimalistic writing. His website is full of great minimalistic writing tools and tips.
Check that out here: http://www.chuckpalahniuk.net/
It is the best website out there for getting a peak into a great published author. He really gives back to the writing community.
For a little bit of background on him and his writing style, check out his wiki: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Chuck_Palahniuk
If you are into minimalism in literature check out the minimalist wiki: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Minimalism
I know this site has a lot of writers trying to find a place for themselves. I have found minimalism works for me very naturally. It might work for others.

Priceless. EA won't ever be able to touch the magic behind those games. I don't care if they still retain a few senior Westwood developers.
Nice segue into mentioning that Empire At War is definitely on my plate. The 1v1 galatic mode is going to make that game.

It should be illegal for Electronic Arts to buy anyone else out ever again. If they had their way, the only games we'd play would be licensed movie titles.

I can see some minimalist tendencies in his works, but he also has some really hardcore stylistic stuff that, in my opinion at least, goes against minimalist thinking. Then again, I'm not a huge Palahniuk fan anyways, so... :p I've only read Fight Club and Survivor, and while I think he's pretty alright, I tend to not understand all the praise he gets. Sounds like a cool guy, though, at least. It's good to see authors who actually actively interact with their fans.

I'm going to be in the general vicinity of an EB tomorrow and must resist the siren call of Grandia 3. I've been playing Chibi-Robo almost exclusively since I picked it up last week and what with DQ8 and a stack of other JRPG's sitting unplayed in my collection, I really shouldn't drop my cash on another JRPG that I don't have time to play.
That said, Grandia 3 sure looks nice...

Crap! I really loved this concept (HUGE vampire fan), but the demo had some problems. . . worst protaganist voice-acting EVER, worst music in a PC game maybe ever, and weird maps.
Plus, it uses Star Force, and it won't just show up on shelves. . . I'll have to order it because it's obscure. . . if I don't just block out it's existence because I'm so scared of Star Force screwing up my machine.

Interesting! I didn't know there was a game based on the movie... :)

I was all excited. And then I found out it wasn't based on the Terry Pratchett book. Now I'm sad.

I picked up Wallace & Grommit, Tales Of Legendia and Mirrormask today (as well as Saw 2, but pretend I didn't admit that).
I loved Wallace & Grommit. Legendia seems pretty neat but I need to put it aside until I finish DQ8. I can't wait to watch Mirrormask though. That's next on my list of movies to watch.
So much for my rocksteady resolve. All I need to do is walk into an EB and I'm $60 poorer. I just wish they had Grandia 3 in but Tales will keep me busy for a while.

Maybe you can tell me what is going on at the start of Legendia, I must have missed something. Very slight spoilers ahead, all stuff you get in the first 10 minutes of play or a read through of the manual, but just to be fair.
I don't really care how Senel and Shirley found themselves in the middle of the ocean without any supplies. I am curious about how the legacy and Merines/shining ones could exist (at all) in the same world as they do and they have never heard of either. It seems like the world is pretty developed and inhabited so how did a Holy Alliance marine manage to never even get the notion that there is a gigantic ship/island floating around the world's oceans?
That is my main complaint so far, that and the battles have all been rather easy.
Oh yeah, and how is Mirrormask? I still haven't seen it but am very interested.

I am only 8 minutes into Legendia, so I honestly don't know. I figured that it will probably become clear as the game goes on.
I'll let you know about Mirrormask once I get a chance to watch it. It looks like it'll be pretty sweet, but I reserve judgement until after I view the finished product.

I'm terribly sorry. Still, the movie is apparently awesome. :)

I just watched MirrorMask... (came out today, as I previously mentioned)
That was some crazy shit. It was more or less a family movie (Jim Henson productions), but some of the scenes were quite amazing (artistically it was very impressive). Music was good too. Worth a gander if you're into that kind of stuff!

The opening credits alone in Mirrormask were a work of art. I just started watching it but it's pretty spiffy thus far.

Exit rocks!
And Grandia III is rather entertaining (the combat system is probably the best of any RPG around -- if anyone has played a grandia they'll likely agree).

Speaking of Jim Henson.. anyone seen the stuff about the sequel to The Dark Crystal by Gendy Tartakovsky?
Good stuff.. good stuff.
