A developer post (http://forums.ubi.com/groupee/forums/a/tpc/f/5161005423/m/6611075904) on the Ubi Soft forums has turned up a nifty benchmark video that compares the PC version of Far Cry to the Xbox 360 version. In the video the shader effects for water are turned to maximum and then compared side by side with the Xbox 360 version. Comparing a 360 game to an old PC game isn't exactly terribly exciting, but getting a glimpse of the nice shader effects in the 360 game is.

Direct link to the video here. (http://www.yourfilelink.com/get.php?fid=22950)

I hadn't been the least bit interested in Far Cry for the 360 until seeing that video. Wow.

Thanks grifter_66 for submitting this as well.

I really liked the water in Mario Sunshine, personally. This 360 Farcry water is pretty slick though.

Nice, but like someone in that picture thread pointed out, I dont like how it flattens out.

~After watching the video it looks weird, like a storm is coming or something.

Thanks for the Pic links. :)

Since I can't see the video, not sure but from the Pics it looks like they just added new Shaders and Mapping, which is something they could easily patch for the PC, correct?

Welcome and I don’t think they will be able to patch that water in for the pc. But maybe I’m wrong. *pray*

No patch (who would in the right mind to patch a 2 years old game) but Crysis would match or even superseed under DX10 vidcards.

Nice waves and completely unrealistic. TERRIBLY-BAD splashes from bullets hitting water.

Nevertheless, not bad for the 360.

While the water was looking *great* I got to stop and think what was the point in comparing it to a 2-year old PC game?

The 360 version certainly looks better - it better damn be, Far Cry PC is really an old game.

Comparing it with Far Cry 2 (Crysis) would be certainly more fair.

IT's anyone else disappointed that much of the fixation with games now is crap like how good the water looks?

Crytek does design game engines and Farcry used to be a tech demo. Seems logical that they'd put some work into their graphics.

Big time... I mean, where is the new gameplay ? I was playing System Shock 2 recently and boy does that game rock. There so much gameplay, so many twists and turns, different equipement, enemies and ways to accomplish objectives. I work in the game industry at an artistic position, and even then, visual doesn't cut it anymore for me when I'm going to buy a game. To me, a fun game is more important than a pretty game. If you want fun, i'm on your side, if you want photorealistic environements, then go watch a goddamn movie.

Visual always boosts immersion, but it shouldn't be the backbone of a product, else we'll be going back to that aweful era of 'multi-media adventure' type of game...

Give me Bio Shock now !

Very nice looking, but I've seen similiar water effects in Silent Hunter III. Of course, since the entire game takes place on the ocean, the water effects would be par none.

"No patch (who would in the right mind to patch a 2 years old game) but Crysis would match or even superseed under DX10 vidcards."

You did not include a smiley so, I guess your saying this with a strait face (at least trying) :)
How can you see people going Ooooo, Ahhhhh, and Orgasm!, then say why should/would they patch to PC version to so it will look like that right NOW cause it is 2 years old? ;)

Also, how can you superseed DX10 if it is not even released and wont be for months, not a single company has a DX10 released game nor Hardware (unless the X1900 can, yet?)?

Either you dont have a PC or you are just too excited. :)

No patch (who would in the right mind to patch a 2 years old game) but Crysis would match or even superseed under DX10 vidcards.

They should patch it. Good companies patch good games (which FarCry is) for more than 2 years. I think Blizzard has the record...they patched StarCraft a few months ago, more than 7 years after it was released.

And that's exactly why StarCraft now has graphics comparable to Half-Life 2.

There's a difference between fixing bugs and making your game look like a new release.

"now"? are you new to gaming or something? there was a big deal made of the fact that quake 2's water was semi-transparent

I hope they shorten the X360 version. I loved that game until one of the last parts of the last level where you have to get across a giant open area fucking full of giant mutated rpg-wielding beasts. It got so frustrating I cheated for the first time in 10 years in an FPS.
