I recently saw a preview for Pandorum and became mildly interested in potentially viewing it. Looks sorta like Aliens. Has anyone here gone to see it?

I took the family to see Cloudy this Saturday..... Holy crap is 3d expensive!

$46.50 for the movies (2 adults and 3 kids, baby stayed with Grandma)
$45.~ for popcorn, slushies and one candy item for each of the kids.

This is outrageous, and we'll be waiting on the DVD next time.

Indeed. I havn't bought cinema food that has a markup of amount 500% in years...just get there 10 mins earlier, go to the supermarket, and get a bag of chocolates...stuff them in your pocket or a handy girl's bag and voilla. In fact I take an entire subway meal deal in there sometimes...

We never, ever buy movie theater food. Bigger waste of money than gambling. At least when you're gambling there's a microscopic chance at big returns.

Problem is, if "everybody" did that, half the movie theaters would go out of business and half would charge $30 a ticket. In a sense, all those people buying candy and popcorn are subsidizing the industry for cheapskates like myself who don't buy anything besides a coffee some of the time.

And I wouldn't call buying popcorn wasting money, the salty and buttery popcorn is part of the movie experience. I'm glad my parents got me popcorn as a kid when they took me to the movies.

The local theater I frequent has a very nice Pizza/Ice Cream/Coffee shop that's not too pricey. I bring my own bottled water always as well. 4 dollars for a bottle of Dasani pee-water? I'll pass..

Saw 9 last night....
It had EVERYTHING at it's disposal to be a fantastic affair, interesting mature plot, excellent characters, good voice acting, a surreal close to home feel to it....
And they fucked it up, there was too much "action" in this thing and I ended up being very disappointed.

Holy Faulkner that's expensive. Did you at least enjoy the movie?

If we were not meant to bring our own drinks and candy, then why do wives have purses?

However, I will throw down for movie theater popcorn -- the only thing worth the price.

The wife and I saw Cloudy last night - it was a suprisingly large amount of fun. There were a lot of things (not really sexual) that seemed more oriented towards an adult sense of humor. Also - no one should pass up Neil Patrick Harris as the voice of the monkey.

I never buy it, but you're right. Some Microwave popcorn CLAIM to have "movie theater butter" but they're lying. Tastes nothing alike.

No, no, you've all got it backwards. This isn't surprising given the nature of the true answer and the fact of what sort of person frequents these boards.

The real reason theaters can charge so much, and will always be able to stay in business, is because every dude that's taking a date to the movies feels the need to prove that he's not cheap! So, of course, he offers, she accepts, and everyone's happy :P
