There's a French website called JV247 (http://www.jv247.com/games/3387-NEWS1637-Super-Street-Fighter-IV-en-preparation.html) that has, what appear to be, leaked images from Super Street Fighter IV... a game that has been rumored for a while now. Not only is T.Hawk's lamesauce a part of this, but there's some girl named Juri too. Interesting enough there's a shot of Bison (aka Dictator) in the second screenshot, but it says Vega in the health bar. It may just be really early work. Be sure to click through in the images on the right banner... they're either really really good fakes, or the real deal.
This is coming out a day before Capcom is set to release some news about SFIV, as purported by their teaser website (http://www.capcom.co.jp/newwarrior/index.html).
Would you prefer a full retail copy, or just a downloadable expansion?

Expansion, please!
I don't want to have to dig too deep in my wallet. Specially if it is just minor improvements...

Nothing is fishy about those shots. In Japan, M. Bison is Vega, Balrog is M. Bison (Original was a play on words for M. Tyson), and Vega is Balrog.
They shuffled the names around in NA because they were worried about Tyson suing them. They moved M. Bison to the boss, because they used the M for Master Bison.
If anything, those names give more credibility to the vailidity of the shots :)

I forgot about him being Vega.
Vega(US) = Balrog(JP), Balrog(US) = Mike Bison(JP), M.Bison(US) = Vega(JP)

Definitely physical media.
Btw, add me to the long list of E74 victims. : ( I got the E74 error once in August, rebooted and it was working fine until a couple of days ago. I was getting the latest dash update and then boom- E74. Sending it off for repairs today. It lasted almost three years though, which is apparently pretty good for a 360.
I'll buy it if it's one the Super NES. Why else would they choose that name?

Not to nitpick, but his name is shown as M. Bison in JP, not Mike Bison.

If the rumors about Super SF4 are true, I'm sad to see it.
The reason SF4 did so well and was so readily accpeted by the masses is because it finally fixed what was broken about Fighting Games.
As Capcom began to move further into it's "fighting games are insane" mode that really started with Children of The Atom (maybe) and Namco started moving into it's insane proliferation of characters starting with Tekken (a good game roster used to 7-10 characters, then it ballooned to 20-40) fighting games became less and less accessible to people new to the genre, or not hardcore into a series.
Not only that, clearly the fun in fighting games comes from knowing not just your character, but your opponents as well. Knowing what your opponent can and cannot do is where the fun of devising strategies in fighting games comes in.
SF4 came out and drastically reduced the number of characters in the game as well as their movesets. Suddenly not every character could throw a fireball, had a dragon punch, and could teleport. This meant that there were actually REASONS for playing specific characters. Strenghts and weaknesses. It also became much easier to know your opponents, their moves, and what they can and cannot do.
This Super SF4 seems to be ruining this in every way possible.
The fighting game renaissance has ended before it started.

Jaz, you make some good points until you get to this line:

Street Fighter IV has 25 characters. To me, that's not a drastic reduction at all. I believe Street Fighter III: Third Strike had 19. Sure there are some similar movesets, but there are still reasons for playing each character.

Depends on the price. If they expect to charge a full $60 for a boxed copy of SSFIV, then then can forget it--I'd much sooner pay <=$15 for DLC. However, if they release a boxed copy in the $40 price range, I'd probably opt for that one and trade in my current copy of SFIV (assuming I can import my saved games into SSFIV).
By the way--does this mean we should be expecting the inevitable Super Street Fighter IV Turbo at some point?
Jaz: Have you played BlazBlue?
You need to play BlazBlue. It sounds exactly like what you need, 12 characters, each one extremely distinct (no two play alike whats-so-ever) and wonderfully balanced all around.

I considered myself to be really good at the Street Fighter series through Street Fighter Alpha. After that, as you say, with so many characters getting introduced, each of which you had to master on at least a basic level to know what they were capable of and how to counter them, it just got to be more than I had time for.
And heaven help those poor kids who mastered some of the fighters with the ridiculoulsy large rosters, like Marvel vs. Capcom 2; that's just some craziness right there.

In what region is Bison called Dictator? I've never seen that come up, even in the japanese arcade.

They call him that in International tournaments to avoid confusion... Balrog is also referred to as "Boxer". I'm not sure what Vega is called.

I'm pretty much the same way. Up through the Alpha series I considered myself pretty damn proficient at Street Fighter (I know I've logged more hours playing Street Fighter Alpha 2 than any other videogame, period), but after that my interest waned. I picked up SFIV for 360 when it was released, played for maybe a month, and lost interest again. I don't have time for SF like I used to and as a result don't possess the same skills.
For some reason though, I can always bring myself back to a fighter like Virtua Fighter 5. The same highly technical aspects people dislike about the VF series are what I love.

Seems too soon.
But I havent been into Street Fighter for ever. I tried 4 and realized I dont have the time either, nor do I care anymore.
Back in the 2 days I was all about fighting games, so I guess I would have been open to this.

I was thinking more Marvel vs. Capcom 2 when I said drastically reduced the number of fighters.
I actually think SF3 did it right and it's one of my favorite fighting games. I really liked the way they made an effort to limit the amount of fireballs and dragonpunches in that game.

2/3 of the characters in MvC2 are there for casual fun or total novelty. Competitive players only have to worry about a dozen or so characters.

What SF game are you talking about? Only a few characters have ever had a teleport. Namely Dhalsim, Dictator, and Gouki/Akuma. Blanka, Boxer, and Claw, too name a few, have never had a fireball. And most characters do not have a dragon punch, just the Shotos. You must be thinking of some other game.

I believe they refer to Vega as Claw.
I hope this is DLC, I won't shell out $60 for an upgrade.

There are plenty of dragon-punch equivalents in the game--obviously Sagat's Tiger Uppercut (Sagat =/= Shoto), Fei Long's Shien Kyaku (flaming dragon kick thing), Cammy's Thrust Kick, and even Balrog got his Buffalo Headbutt back in SSF2, I believe it was.
Of course, those are all varients on a theme. But for most, the anti-air utlity is pretty similiar (except for the invincibility in the original Ken/Ryu/Akuma dragon punches), and the weaknesses mostly the same as well (whiffing and then being vulnerable while coming back down).
So I think that's what Jaz was referring to when he said everyone started getting DPs.

Yeah. I wasn't speaking literally when I said dragon punch. I was referring to pretty much any instantaneous vertical anti-air attack.

If it's only 2 characters and minor tweaks, prefer download.
If it's everything that all of the blogs are buzzing about (eight new characters, massive gameplay changes, etc.), prefer physical media. All of that extra content is not going to be 20 bucks and it would probably take days to DL it. It's going to be a different game entirely, put it in on physical media.
I would presume that if it's a whole new game, people won't be able to play this game online with regular SF IV owners because of the differences in the disc content. That might actually hurt Capcom, but let's face it: this is the company that's released a bunch of previous iterations of this series. There is no reason to think they'll offer this strictly as DLC.

While I agree here, I'd prefer a DLC suite. I already bought the game . . . rather not have to a second time. Unless it's an expansion disc, like the GTA IV disc with Gay Tony and the Lost.

Kotaku is reporting that it will be a standalone title that features 8 additional characters and adjustments to all characters. Apparently it is due in March-May 2010 and will not be sold at full price.
