Discourse: The Holiday (Gaming) Season

Saturday brings... DISCOURSE. Once again, we'll yap about stuff based on a topic... feel free to go off on a tangent, but try to at least answer the questions.

October is right around the corner and we're square in the middle of the game rush. Halo 3: ODST came out this past week... we're getting Borderlands soon, Left 4 Dead 2, Assassin's Creed 2, GTA: Episodes From Liberty City, Brutal Legend, Modern Warfare 2, Dragon Age: Origins, Uncharted 2, and tons more. So, which games are you going to be picking up, which games are you going to wait for, or are you just going to bail on game buying and wait for the overpacked beginning of 2010?

Probably will add some cheapo games that I can pick up later after release and a few DS games for playing on the go.

My PC is pretty busy now with Champions and LOTRO.

Probably should be enough for this year. Awesome year :)

I'm going to rent most of those. The only two I plan on picking up are Dragone Age and Brutal Legend, but I do the Gamefly thing and pick up good ones that I rent first.

I already picked up Beatles: Rock Band and ODST, and preordered Brutal Legend and Assassin's Creed II. Also on my must-have list are Uncharted 2 and New Super Mario Brothers Wii, but beyond that I will probably be waiting for discounts.

I wasn't even considering ODST, since the main selling point for the Halo games has been the multi-player, and I'm an old-man gamer with horrible reflexes and get turned into a bullet sponge whenever I attempted going online. And then a friend twisted my arm until I played firefight with him, and I enjoyed it enough to go out and buy it.
Upcoming games for me:
Assassin's Creed 2, i still play the first one when I need to let off some steam and just go on a killing rampage in a town.
Brutal Legend, the demo sold me on this. Looks like great goofy fun.
I'm still on the fence about Dragon Age, mainly because I didn't particularly enjoy Mass Effect, which means a pass on Mass Effect 2 as well.
I was really considering Borderlands for a day one, but I'm not sure, and those Claptrap "making of" videos are starting to sour me the game.

Well I'll be buying ODST as soon as my 360 comes back from repair, and I've been growing more and more interested in Borderlands these past couple months. Some good reviews is all it will take for me to buy it when it comes out. Brutal Legend is another one I'm going to play (demo) when I get my 360 back, and Ill make my decision off of that.

Oh and Assassins Creed 2 , L4D2 and MW2 are all guaranteed buys for me, having been huge fans of each of their prequels.

L4d2 and MW2 are HUGE ifs, and only in the first sale and/or price drop. I already have too many FPSs, and have COD4/5 and L4d1, so I can wait.

I have been trying to figure this out. As it stands right now, I bought ODST, Batman and Sacred 2 all in the last 2 months.

What will I buy next.
Ratchet and Clank will probably be on the list - these are just too fun to resist

Demon's Souls is very interesting and I really want to try it but may wait for a price drop
Borderlands.

Why do all the good games have to come out in the fall. Street Fighter 4 is the only full priced game I got this year. Next year might not be as bad if ME2 and Army of TWO come out in the winter/spring.

Have Tekken 6 LE and Demon's Souls on pre-order. Will definitely be buying L4D2 and MW2 when their Steam stuff hits. I'll be picking up Brutal Legend for my brother for his birthday next month. Pretty sure I want to throw in that PSP GT Bundle in October and possibly Beatles Rock Band for Christmas... that just leaves me with figuring out how to get Assassin's Creed 2, Alpha Protocol, and Uncharted 2 in at some point. Might wait on those for a bit, but I'll pick them up if the money allows. Currently have DiRT2 and Batman:AA on the wait and see list also.

Some other stuff I'm going to have to keep my eye on too. Waiting for reviews on Borderlands and Dragon Age to see if they're worth it. Also curious to see how the Wii Silent Hill Remake will turn out. Prolly some other stuff I'm forgetting.

I've taken to dropping all the games I'd like to buy in my Amazon wish lists (one for each platform I own, as well as one for books, board games, photography and astronomy gear) and waiting for them to reach palatable (to me at least) prices. Times are tight/tough right now, and I have to be more careful.

I just picked up Age of Empires I and II, with expansions, for ten bucks. It's old, but I'm a dad, and I'm broke (at least for entertainment expenditures). :o

For me the next year is really adding up to a resurgent PC gaming market, with games like ME2, L4D2, a new Diablo, a new Starcraft, a new C&C..... ugh, I wish I had more time and more money.

Yeah that is the current rumor, but I don't like posting many rumors as news unless it's real big. I've got a note into Sega about it... I'm sure we'll hear soon.

I'm going to be getting a PS3 in the next few months so I'll mostly be catching up on the exclusive games Ive never played (this works out as money is tight).

Since everything I really wanted has been delayed to 2010 (which is terrible) I'm really only looking at picking up Uncharted 2, Borderlands and Modern Warfare 2 (hopefully this does well on the PS3 as I don't have an Xbox 360 anymore).

Stuff like Brutal Legend, Assassin's Creed 2 and Left 4 Dead 2 I'll pick up during a sale. In AC2's case, there was no way I'd buy that day one to begin with since I was so disappointed by the first.

Well, pretty much Alpha Protocol alone..but that looks like it's been pushed in 2010 apparently. Feh. I've taken to just playing the previous year's games that are any good and patched up, and so on.

I'll probably hit up L4D2 once it's on sale, and Dragon Age will be on the xmas list because I just really don't want to get back into another big RPG after finally finishing Fallout 3 last month.
