View Full Version : Solitaire More Popular Than WoW?

There's a bit of a revolution going on at Xfire. Community members have rallied together in a united front of solidarity to knock World of Warcraft from the top slot on Xfire's network. Their populist mascot? Humble Windows Solitaire.

Forum threads and chain messages have blazed across the Xfire network, spurring thousands of users to fire up their forgotten Windows games and take a shot at bringing back their faded glory. The movement has spawned an official logo, "Solitaire Player" forum signatures, and countless calls to action for all members on the Xfire network.

Is this a resurgence of nostalgia for the Windows Classics? Or a generation of gamers raised on Counter-Strike 1.6 and Everquest discovering Solitaire for the first time? You decide ;)

I think the real question is: Who cares?

You cannot slay the juggernaut of time wasting that is Solitaire. That said they may knock WoW from the list for a while but it will return quickly.

I just assume it's some corporate game browser loaded with adware, and thus I've never installed it and don't see the need to.

Ok this is going to be really sad but there was a time where, and I kid you not, solitare was my game of choice. Largely because I was still on dial-up and had hours upon hours while even small stuff downloaded. So I would sit there and just play away for four or five hours, some nights being at it literally until i was passing out. I have no idea why when I still have som many games I've never touched.

I just assume it's some corporate game browser loaded with adware, and thus I've never installed it and don't see the need to.

I really wouldn't say so, sure there's some advertising at the top but nothing worse tehn AIM ever did. It's also not an actual browser but lets you jump directly in with friends which is far better. Of course something with my network causes it to disconnect when I'm in a game for like half hour so I don't bother to use it. Probably good so I don't realize just how much time I spend on WoW.

Xfire is basically a gamerfied IM client. I think it's grown well past that simple explanation since I last used it long, long ago, but that's the underlying gist of it.

It's actually pretty neat. The guys that run it are independent and are gamers themselves. Being able to contact your friends when you can't get on the same server they're on or when they are playing a game you don't have is great. I love having my played time tracked (even if sometimes it's depressing) so when people bitch about how awful a monthly subscription is I can show them I pay something like 8 cents an hour for WoW. :P

Solitaire can be played at practicaly ANY computer at offices and workplaces... Windows 3.1 had it, and it didn't change at all since then. Thousands of receptionists and secretaries play solitaire all the time :)

WEll, my guess is that they don't play the game. They just leave it up while playing other games.

I'll echo what's been said. XFire is quality communication software that helps groups that play mutliple games keep tabs on eachother.

It's great if you're in to that sort of thing.

Don't blame a fantastic program for a stupid idea cooked up by its users.

They arent actually playing solitaire. If you open xfire, then open World of warcraft or Counterstrike, and then open solitaire last, it tracks just solitaire and you can wow or "pwn" on CS all you want while it only times you for solitaire. Its an exploit that they are having fun with is all, and xfire dosent seem to care ;)

Its not an exploit... Nice job on a lot of you being douchebags by the way. Omgsorz I hate the program Im gonna play xbox!

Anyone who plays a lot of PC games and has friends online needs it. The best feature is the in-game chat ability, and also being able to click one button and join a game someone else is playing without doing anything.

Hmm, interesting, i have vent for that.

considering 99% of windows pc's arent used for games, and solitare is installed on all of them, all I can say is...
