GameSpot (http://www.gamespot.com/xbox360/action/brutallegend/news.html?sid=6228671&mode=previews) and IGN (http://xbox360.ign.com/articles/102/1025918p1.html) have each posted a preview of Double Fine Productions' upcoming action-adventure game, Brutal Legend. IGN:
Right from the title screen, you can tell you're in for something different. It's a live action shot of an album with the Brutal Legend logo, and Jack Black's hands open it up to reveal the main menu. Wait long enough and Black will start to tap his fingers, anxious for you to make a decision. Start a new game and you'll be treated to one of the greatest videogame openings ever. Black's character, Eddie Riggs, is a roadie for a young band that doesn't appreciate his skills at fixing guitars, keeping the band in tune, and crafting epic set pieces. As they take the stage on night, they start with a crushing riff that makes them sound like a serious metal outfit – until the DJ starts scratching and you hear the singer's whiny, non-threatening voice and realize they're a cheesy pop metal band. Developer Tim Schafer has stated that he grew up a metal head and was disillusioned when the genre started to sell out and become more concerned with looking good on stage than creating honest music. Brutal Legend is a loving homage to classic metal and definitely pokes fun at hair metal, nu metal, and other diluted strands of the genre.
