View Full Version : Virtua Fighter 5 NOT PS3 Confirmed- EGM Screws Up
Reanimated

This time involving their "news" that Virtua Fighter 5 had been "confirmed" for the Playstation 3. Kikizo games (http://games.kikizo.com/news/200602/041_p1.asp) recently took a little trip to Japan for hands-on time with the game and came back with this nugget:
While we're here, can we just clear up this nonsense about Virtua Fighter 5 being "confirmed" for PS3. Everyone thinks it's confirmed for PS3. It isn't. EGM magazine printed a tiny snippet casually mentioning (not even reporting as such) that VF5, "which Sega has confirmed for the PS3", and "might even end up exclusive to the console", is a "technically savvy" fighter and that players enjoyed the game's "new Dodge button" at last year's location test.
Because EGM is a magazine printed on paper etc, everyone ASSUMED IT MUST BE TRUE but in fact, they were mistaken. One could maybe argue that they just sort of made it up, because they didn't know what else to say about it. It will inevitably end up on console at some point, and PS3 is a near certainty. But Sega has not confirmed - nor decided on - any home console version of VF5 yet.
EGM and 1up.com seem to have been spreading a lot of false information lately... not to mention their little plagiarism scandal. Maybe some changes are in order for Ziff Davis.

It's also funny because VF5 doesn't have a dodge button.

EGM is such a waste of trees. And 1up lately has seemed really desparate. Have you seen their "reviews"? Where they all have themes like the reviewer is writing on leaves in the game world and stuff? Complete drivel. I smell the stench of bloated upper management trying to make a "cool website".
The dodge button is not new to VF.
It has already been removed from the series due to making VF3 not fun.

Yeah, because Sony is such a nice, caring, looking-out-for-the-little guy type of company.

Plus they haven't sent me my new issue yet! What am I going to read in the bathroom now?

Heh heh. That's exaclty what I do with mine.
ZD's magazine division is losing money hand-over-fist right now and I know for a fact that they are looking at 'suspending publication' of some of their magazines. Sync, for example, was just canned, and there will be more to come.
I've had too many run-in's with ZD about the problems I've experienced with my subscriptions that I'm about to simply cancel them all and ask for my money back. I can't remember the last time they delivered me what I expected and paid for.

if there are only porting porting for one consol , if will probably be Xbox 360 , because Sega's new arcade platform is actually a PC indeside the cabinet ;)

I think this is true of almost all print magazines. I think the internet has just killed this industry. First off magazines are getting too damned expensive, especially if they bundle in some lame demo disk. Normally im looking at 10$ + for a magazine which is insane. Secondly, thats to the internet, news in print for just seems sooooo out of date by the time it arrives. I have lately read in magazines about great new games that were coming out, where between when the article was published and when it got to me, the game company went out of business.
If it wasnt for my abnormally constant and long visits to the bathroom, I frankly wouldnt buy magazines at all. Hell, if my co-workers and spouse didnt look at me so oddly when I brought my laptop in with me, I would probrably not be buying magazines today.

Most of the magazines I buy are from the UK (PC Gamer, gamesTM, Empire, Total Film, Uncut DVD, Edge, etc.) - the writing style just appeals to me more, which could be down to the fact that I'm Scottish and it's what I'm used to. Some of the US magazines seem 'dumbed down' to me and I simply don't connect with them the same way I do with the UK magazines.
And don't feel bad about your abnormally long trips to the bog... I'm in the same boat. :)

Actually im of the same view, I tend to stick to the UK style magazines too as they seem to have more "content" if that makes sense. Most North American mags seem kinda like fanboy articles bound by advertising.
Game Informer is about the only North American gaming rag I read, and ironically I thought it was an import for the first few issues.

Well I get one of my magazines for $6 a year, so its not so bad. I laughed at that laptop comment, since I'm always thinking that I could read Evil Avatar in the bathroom if I was really desperate.
I mean really REALLY desperate.

Well this is the same EGM who swore there was going to be an add-on board for SNES which would make games faster, and also the same EGM who when they sent one of their "reporters" to Japan the first thing he reported on was how you could get booze from a vending machine there.

Boy, I just hate it when vague snippets are uncritically passed along as fact. I sure am glad Kikizo and their anonymous, totally unspecified sources were able to clear this up once and for all.

EGM has always been shit. I stoped reading EGM when I was like 12 because I thought it was so retarted.I would pick it up occasionaly just to see if it has improved but it never has.

Don't knock it, it's awesome.
I too find myself sticking with magazines from home rather than anywhere else. In particular Edge and Empire, although there is a great Australian film magazine that I like to pick up on occasion (the name escapes me, but they rate films by how much the would spend to see it... sound familiar to anyone?).

They peaked with VF2. I still remember SPoD vs. TKoD contests, scaring the bejeesus out of everyone when I staggered them with a Lau elbow, and the universal groans whenever someone chose Jacky or Lion.
When being cruel, I could win a match with a single punch... Shun was hell on newbies. "Stop that rollin dude! This guy is such a cheater! I'm gonna kick his ass!" Two hours later. "Dude! You're such a damn cheater!"
