Somehow this slipped under the radar, but Gamecloud (http://www.gamecloud.com/) has post word that Black has gone gold. (http://www.gamecloud.com/article.php?article_id=3393) The FPS game that has been developed for the PS2 and XBox is slated to drop in North American stores on February 28th.

Excellent news. I was gave away my Xbox so I'll have to wait until the emulation is created for the 360 before snagging this.

I really wanna be excited for this, but if it's true that the game is only 5 hours in length, I won't be able to justify spending $40 on it when GRAW and The Outfit are coming out soon after.

Anyway, about Black - I'm interested, but I worry about it being a one-trick pony. Not to unfairly bash those one-trick ponies who earn a living by doing their one trick rather well...

Hard for me to get excited about even the most well implemented FPS at this point... OK so stuff blows up better than other last-gen FPS games... what's __NEW__ in this game???

New? Probably not a lot, but that's not to say it won't be a good game in spite of that!

Shit, I think I just stuck up for Electronic Arts.

OK, here's my take.

I like FPSs. I like the Burnout series for the graphics, effects, etc.

I still havemy trusty original Xbox all hooked up by my 360 and I am willing to pay $50 to show it some love...especially if they mesh a good FPS with Burnout-style graphics.

Should be fun.

If it's not, if it blows, if after an hour I'm bored to tears, I'll come back here and eat some crow.

I am going to be closely watching reviews of this game. I absolutely LOVE the Burnout games...

Oh I suspect it will be a good game (or not, but I wouldn't be surprised), but it's just not a very thrilling concept for me in terms of gameplay. I've never liked the treatment of gameplay as a "genre" like movies. I mean I don't think Wolfenstein3D should have been the ONLY FPS game or anything, but the old system of improving the graphics and slapping new paint on an old idea shouldn't be the MAJORITY of games... I mean it's not like there aren't great new ideas out there to be implemented, nintendo does it constantly, games like ICO and Shadow of the Collosus were totally groundbreaking in terms of gameplay, in fact they were SEQUALS with totally different, totally great gameplay ideas that were well implemented. So all I'm saying is it can be done, gameplay doesn't have to be stagnant, and no gameplay is more stagnant and repeated than FPS. I like the idea of running around shooting stuff as much as anybody, but I yern for something to spice it up. I'm bored.
