In Sonic Riders, Dr. Eggman challenges Sonic and his friends to a Worldwide Grand Prix, and the prize for coming out on top is an ultra-rare Chaos Emerald! Gliding on air boards gamers will experience a heightened sense of Extreme sports-style racing tension as Sonic and his pals perform tricks and stunts over treacherous wide-open terrain. WorthPlaying (http://www.worthplaying.com) recently had a chance to try out a beta build, here is a snip :

Sonic Riders is all about air—every game mechanic centers around it, from speed boosts to defensive maneuvers. Extreme Gears themselves are powered by air—without it, they’ll shut down, and your character is stuck running on the track. Considering just about everyone in this game is a super-speedy mammal, it’s not that much of a speed loss, but it’s just enough to be felt, especially when you’ve got rivals on your tail. In addition to conserving air, you also have to make sure that your characters stay behind you in the pack.

IMO it looks good. I enjoyed Sonic R, and have always loved Sonic Team's choice of colors.

what happened to Dr. Robotnik? I never understood how the character changed names yet remained the same.

Let's not overlook the most important question here: If I pick Shadow, will I be able to shoot my gat at the competition?

Ever since the first Sonic game, in Japan his name was always Dr. Eggman. But when Sonic the Hedgehog was released in America, the localization team found it to be "not evil enough" and changed it to Dr. Robotnik for American audiences.

When Sonic Adventure for Dreamcast was released, it was a major turning point where the art style of Sonic suddenly became very, very Japanese. And with that, they decided to actually keep the original name from Japan of the main antagonist. Sega of America just silently "forgets" Dr. Robotnik.

Same thing that happened to Princess Toadstool/Princess Peach.
