Are you having problems with Uncharted since updating to PS3 Firmware 3.0? Then you're in luck son! Sony has released an optional update that'll bring the version to 3.01. What's it do? Playstation Blog (http://blog.us.playstation.com/2009/09/ps3-firmware-update-v3-01-now-available/) descriptively writes:

Hi everyone, PS3 system software update 3.01 is now available for download. This is an optional update that improves system stability during use of some PlayStation 3 format software.

I guess now I'll finally update my firmware.

Does this fix the flakey dual-shock controller sync issue at all? I could find no mention on this, and about 50% of the time my DS controller will not link to the PS3 (just keeps blinking). The non-DS controller works perfectly under 3.0.

EDIT - Several pages into the blog and someone states it does NOT fix the controller issue, so bummer there. Will test this out tonight myself, when I can load this update.

OK this is really effed up.
Optional firmware for a mainstream device? It's like saying, "uhh were not sure if this will fix anything, but you can give it a try." oh yea and any devs passing through cert have to pass two firmwares now...
NIGHTMARE!!!!!

Conversation goes like this:
"Dude I was playing GTA3 on and it was hard to win."
"Yeah? What firmware were you using?"
"Hunh, oh I don't know. I get the latest of everything."
"Dude! You must have the optional firmware. It makes all your games run at higher difficulty."
"What? How do I fix it?"
"Pull your hard drive, then put it in backwards, then redownload the operating system. Yep, thats what worked for me."
"..."
"So, do you wanna play some 360?"
"Ok."

Stop the insanity now Sony! For everyone's sake!

Yeah, just like that.
-OR -
the update is for people who are having issues with the 3.0 update, because most people are not.

This update froze my PS3.

This update, designed to fix issues with the LAST fucking update, froze my working playstation 3. I am astounded and amazed.

I won't bother with the update, because i don't have neither Uncharted nor a White Ceramic DS3. That's probably the reason why this firmware is optional. Not required to play online, but fixes some minuscule problems that you MIGHT have. Nice move Sony :)

Well mine has worked fine, so no need to download then. I like that its optional.

This update froze my PS3.

Perhaps it's really a marketing maneuver, to persuade you to 'update' your hardware to a slim? :D

About time they updated. Uncharted was unplayable and I just bought my PS3 slim to play Uncharted.

Sony started doing optional firmware updates because people were complaining that they had to perform updates too often for no tangible benefits. Recently there was an optional update because the features updated were for vidzone and clearly not everyone needs that. It is about helping people who need it without inconveniencing people who don't

Surely the devs would only have to pass cert on one firmware and then require that the system their software plays on have at least that version. I was under the impression devs may be working with firmware that is ahead of what has been released to the public anyway.
