Various bits of news have surfaced from the results of Activision's quarterly financial conference call today.

Gamecloud (http://www.gamecloud.com/) has the scoop on a few them which include...

The planned console versions of The Movies have been cancelled. (http://www.gamecloud.com/article.php?article_id=3363)
The purchase of the game rights to the upcoming Michael Bay directed Transformers movie. (http://www.gamecloud.com/article.php?article_id=3366)

The official press release from Activision regarding the conference call can be read here. (http://investor.activision.com/ReleaseDetail.cfm?ReleaseID=186718)

I am still leary of the Transformers flick but hopefully they can make a decent game out of it. Anyone hear if it's going to be the new generation of Transformers or the original set for the movie?

Anything short of G1 will be a letdown.

It will be a live-action movie with CG G1 Transformers. All the old favourites should return; the producers have repeatedly mentionned that it was going to be a character-driven piece. Sounds promising, except for the director choice, IMO.

Gun was the number 1 selling new IP last year, and it was considered a failure. And people wonder why we see so many sequels...

I would be VERY surprised if it wasn't G1.

I think I read somewhere it was a mix of both Transformers generations and that the writers definitely wanted to put in as many of their favourites as they could.

director and producer said that G1 was the best choice with the time and setting. Besides the modern day ones are more like pokemon than transformers.

It's going to be G1. However Megatron isn't going to transform into a hand gun. Thats a shame :(

I think the movie is going to try and avoid massive robots transforming into very small devices. I think they are worried people will think that isn't possible and too far fetched.

I can't remember what they are going to do with Soundwave.

Look here for far too much information...

It matters not; Michael Bay is directing - all hope is lost.

Let's just hope that it's a The Rock and not a Pearl Harbour. Anyway, from what I've heard Spielberg has had a pretty close hand in the project, due to being a big Transformers fan.

If it doesn't have Optimus Prime not only will I not see the movie. I might even camp out near my local theater protesting and say the movie endorses child porn and terrorists.
