Wired News (http://www.wired.com/) just posted their Top 10 vaporware of 2005 (http://www.wired.com/news/technology/0,70143-0.html?tw=wn_index_1).

7. Team Fortress 2: Brotherhood of Arms
Valve Software (http://www.valvesoftware.com/)'s team-based action shooter is still missing in action. The eagerly awaited sequel to the smash Team Fortress has been lost in the jungle since 1999. As Wikipedia notes (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Team_Fortress_2), this classic vaporware has become a fixture on the vaporware dishonor roll.

There is no logical reason why Zelda is on that list. It has had one confirmed delay. That does not make it vaporware.

these lists are more and more useless every year. no one cares about tf2 (especially since there is bf2) and dnf and other games from back in 1999. its time to move on.

ps: what a fucking shock that dnf makes it to the number 1 spot again. move on.

That's because the list isn't about vapourware, it's about controversy > visits.

According to the intro for the list, Duke Nukem Forever isn't eligible to be on the Vaporware list - they never promised a specific release date. The release date has always been, "When it's done."

It makes the cut because they promised it would be out in the Fall of 2005 and now no one knows when/if it will ever come out and on what platform.

Well, it has been repeatedly confirmed to be on the cube.

Nintendo has already said a couple of times that the game is still coming out for Gamecube.

http://cube.ign.com/articles/665/665351p1.html

They're not realeasing a new date because they probably don't know when the game will be done, and don't want to repeat the miscalculated release date situation.

Nintendo decided to delay the game once and take more time. Biggie biggie.

It's disappointing this was even posted here. TF2 was the cover for HL2 for all those years. They were never making it. TF will be made after the 2nd HL2 eps, that has been confirmed.

Put 2 and 2 together people.

I keep hearing that Zelda:Twilight Princess is coming out in the April timeframe. Check the Wiki entry (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/The_Legend_of_Zelda:_Twilight_Princess).

You need a history lesson. Team Fortress 2 was actually shown off during an E3. It was in development, it looked fantastic, and the boneheads at Valve gave up on it in favor of developing their own engine instead of using a licensed engine.

Given Half-Life 2's rocky launch, I'm thinking that it was a pretty bad decision.

Important safety tip - Never trust or quote anything from a Wiki entry because it can be edited by any moron on the internet.

The prize for most usless collection of rumors and misinformation should go straight to Wikipeda.

The Legend of Zelda: Twilight Princess is an upcoming video game (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Video_game) in Nintendo (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Nintendo)'s Legend of Zelda series (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/The_Legend_of_Zelda_series), for the Nintendo Revolution. Originally planned for release in November (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/November) of 2005 (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/2005), Nintendo delayed it until late 2009 so that the developers could add more content and fine-tune the game.

According to your famous Wiki, Twilight Princess has been delayed until 2009. Sounds about right for a Nintendo title.

Given the fact the HL2 is an amazing game, and I am glad to have the chance to have played it, I would disagree.

Half Life 2 sold out its initial shipment of 1.7 million in its first two months (one year ago). That doesnt even include the steam sales. This is average to poor?

http://www.gamepro.com/computer/pc/games/news/41510.shtml

ps. this is coming from the same person(evil) who said 200,000 units sold for a pc made it a topseller. (gamespy list thread)

Well, I stand corrected. I thought I had read that it sold significantly fewer copies and had massive returns. (Because of Steam.)

This list uses a different definition of vaporware then the rest of the internet. Last I heard vaporware meant software that was said to exist but actually did not exist, or did not exist in the form it was advertised to.

They are listing google betas as vaporware... I mean I have gmail right now? It exists. That its still in "beta" shouldn't make it vaporware. oh well.

Considering thousands of people have played Twilight Princess in one form or another, I have no idea how it's considered vaporware.

To add to the complaints about the shitty list, here's another one. The cable-card ready high-definition TiVo was announced at CES 2005, but the announced release date was early 2006.

Really, though, I can't stand the mindless Wikipedia hate. Yes, in theory anything could be changed at any time. But a complete history of all changes is kept and the people who frequent the site are VERY hardcore about making sure changes stay correct. If crazy stuff is posted, it's editted out fast and efficiently. The site may not be perfect for citing in, say, a college paper, but for finding general information and pointing to on a gaming forum? I think it's totally fine.

That said, this list is a bit silly. Anyone for whom Twilight Princess applies as vaporware has a VERY broad definition of vaporware. Almost absurdly so.

Bullshit, that was a tech demo, or maby experiment would be the best word for HL2. Want to know how I know that? Becuase Gabe Newell said so in the huge Gamespot story they did on the making of HL2. There was never, ever a TF2.

Thankee!

Because vaporware is something that is very specifically and definitely defined by everyone in a single way and as such ideas on what it is are undoubtedly either correct or incorrect. Right. I still don't see how anyone in their right mind could define Twilight Princess as vaporware. What about something like Elder Scrolls: Oblivion? Or S.T.A.L.K.E.R.? Or, I dunno, fucking anything that's ever gotten a delay?

Wow. You have convinced me with this compelling argument.

You and me both!

Evil Avatar (the guy) is pretty funny. I can almost believe his endless hate-rants about Nintendo and PC. I be he has 4 gaming pcs and 4 Gamecubes at home, where he plays 16-player MarioKart DD with his friends!

Anyway, the only real vaporware I can see on that list, besides DNF, are Phantom and the keyboard thingy.

Stalker? Yes. Elder Scrolls? No. If you don't know why that is, I'm sorry.

After posting that, I decided I potentially would count S.T.A.L.K.E.R. But I can't see why you wouldn't count Elder Scrolls if you have Twilight Princess? Because they've given it another release date that may or may not be hit? Pff.
