Evil gently reminded me that since I am no longer sick (physically, not mentally), that I need to put up the polls for the Game of the Year. Here is what made the short list of GotY for the PS2.
We will be doing the final GotY votes this year.

Yippee, first to vote!
SotC better win this or else Kelegacy's full wrath may be unleashed.

They all deserve it, but I selected God of War since it had incredible reviews.
RE4 is the only one that I've beaten (on GCN) but I'm working on Psychonauts for PC right now.
I figured it'd be stupid to pin the GCN GOTY port as the PS2 GOTY!

Shouldn't a PS2 game of the year only be availiable on the PS2. I don't think Psychonauts or Res 4 should be on the PS2 list but the overall GotY list.
It's all about GOD OF WAR!! funnest, most violent game I have ever played yet not once did it feel like they did it for the shock value or gratuitus and unnecisary. And I didn't believe any PS2 game could ever look that good.
Unfortunately I never had the chance to play Shadow of the Colosus.

I picked Shadow of the Colossus - it's a beautiful game and quite innovative. It's also the only game on that list that I have actually seen in action at all, though I have not played it. It was fun to watch though.

I've only played RE4, but it's such a damn good game in every way. And I loathed the previous games, which should tell you something.

I actually had the most fun with Guitar Hero, but I went with Shadow of the Colosus, because it is the type of game I want to see more of.

I didn't see their "Rootkit" listed so I didn't vote. :)
Seriously, I would pick Shadow.

SotC for me, tho GoW is close. RE4 was impressive also, heavy considerations there too (despite seeing it for the Cube first).

Gotta be Shadown of the Colossus. RE4 just just better on the 'Cube (even in controls ... what is this world coming to?!), Guitar Hero was cool but not GotY material, Psychonauts was (marginally) better on Xbox, and God of War, while certainly a fun and well-done game, was no Ninja Gaiden or anything. That said, I didn't play Dragon Quest 8, but I'm not a huge jRPG fan.
There was nothing else like Shadow of the Colossus this year. Not on PS2, not on any system. It was a truly landmark game (for me) ... so beautiful, so fun, so brilliant. Absolutely my PS2 Game of the Year.

God of War might have satisfying monster-smashing and blood-gushing but Shadow of the Colossus is just head and shoulders above everything produced this year. It is so impressive on both a technical and an aesthetic level. This really illustrates the difference between American and Japanese game design. People claim Japanese are racist and that is why the 360 is failing but really when you look at the American design scene versus the Japanese one, the Japanese are just so far ahead. Why would they buy American?
God of War is like a Schwartzenegger movie. And Shadow of the Colossus is like an Ang Lee movie. They're both fun to watch but one is for adults and one is for children. (violent children)
SotC all the way.
I have Dragon Quest 8, and it couldn't be any more freakin' boring.
I don't know if it's a great game or not because I just get bored to tears playing it. It's a huge time sink also. And the voice overs are freakin' horrible. I hate that frog and the dude with the british accent? WTF IS UP WITH THAT?

Man, tough call, they were all top notch. Personally I give SotC the nod because it's probably the one game from the list I'll remember 10 years from now. Assuming I don't have alzheimers by then.

Oh man. This is such a spectacular list. Goes to show what a nice year for strong releases it was. While very, VERY torn between all of them, I ended up going with Guitar Hero. It's not the game I've spent the most time on (Dragon Quest VIII) or the game I think is the best designed (Shadow of the Collosus) or the one I'm most clamoring for the sequel (three-way tie between God of War, RE4, and Psychonauts), but it is invariably the game that I had the most fun with. Guitar Hero is undeniably a frickin' blast.

But I never played Shadow of the Colossus.

I voted for Guitar Hero, God of War and Resident Evil 4.
I want to love SoC, but it runs so asslike, and just... idk, I have to TRY and enjoy it.

I had to go with God of War over SofC for one reason, the controls. I loved how beautiful everything was in SofC, and both games made the battles feel very epic. I just couldn't get over how easy it was to play God of War, good camera and great controls won it for me.

Shadow for sure. God of war was fun, but it didn't really do anything that hasn't been done before, it just did it a differently. As for Resident Evil... it feels wrong to give a multiplatform game a GotY award for a specific system (especially when it's not the games original system).
I picked GoW for one reason... because I have not felt so badass playing a game. Sure it might be a little childish but oh well.
Dragon Quest 8 is also amazing tho and should be up there. I am just now starting SoTC so I couldn't vote for that yet.

I had to pick DQ8 because its the only one I have played, besides RE4. Can't wait to snag all of em for cheap though. Regardless of what gets GotY, I will still be having a blast with all of these top-notch games.

I have read so many good things about guitar hero, I am considering getting a PS 2 just for that; that and the extensive list of RPG's.

You should have owned a PS2 long ago if you like RPGs. Now it will take you until 2010 to beat them all!

Guitar Hero is worth buying a PS2 for, especially now that they're fairly cheap. And there are enough worthwhile RPGs on PS2 to own one if you're a fan of the genre. I say get on it. :)

A lot cheaper than if you would've bought one a couple months after release, like me?
Perhaps a better way of saying it is 'comparatively cheap'.

For me, best from the top:
Resident Evil 4
God of War
Dragon Quest 8
Shadow of the Colossus
RE4 had loads of replay, some of the best graphics the PS2 has to offer, and all round fun factor that made me coming back time after time. Only thing I would have like to see improved is randomly generated enemies (and position) for each stage.

I've been waiting to pick it up, probably stupidly if they stopped making the game, and I need to sometime soon. I missed my window with Phoenix Wright and I CURSE MYSELF EVERYDAY! Spigot you goddamn whore, FedEx me your copy. NoW!

If you had played Guitar Hero you would have voted for it.
I played and beat every game on that list, save for Dragon Quest 8 (which I hear is really good) but nothing is as fun or long-lasting as Guitar Hero.
That's all I have to say.

Go Shadow, go go go go!
The Playstation 2 is the only console where you can get an experience like that. Same with Guitar Hero, to an extent. That's why it's my favorite console of this gen.

Ah, good ol' Shadow. DQ8 and Guitar Hero were also up there with my favourite overall games of 2005. Where's the Katamari love? Sigh.

I voted for Shadow of The Colossus. It's a superb game in every respect. Definitely my favourite game of the year, though Resident Evil 4 (which I played only on the PS2) came close.
