Reality or Fiction? Did you know that the island of Skira, located north of Japan, was discovered by the Russians in 1741 and served as a battleground between US and Japanese troops during World War II? Skira is the setting for Operation Flashpoint: Dragon Rising, a stunningly realistic warfare game with unprecedented levels of detail, freedom and authenticity. Codemasters has now released a “Skira Intro” setting the background story for this year’s much anticipated military squad based sandbox shooter.
As explained in the video, Operation Flashpoint: Dragon Rising’s battlefield is a place mired in historical disputes stretching back centuries. Claimed by China in the 15th century, the isolated island of Skira has also been under Japanese and Russian rule, with the latter currently holding sovereignty. In Operation Flashpoint: Dragon Rising, the global economic crisis results in Skira becoming a flashpoint between superpowers that threaten to erupt into full-scale war. As part of a USMC advance force, the fate of Skira lies in the hands of gamers.
